Ok So I get annoyed by the garmin telling me directions, but I would like sound notifications for stuff like red cameras. is there a way I can just turn off the voice for turn by turn directions?
NO,
not easily. There is a complicated way to create a blank voice file, do a google search if you want more info.
Garmin silent voice
There are places online where you can buy celebrity voices, etc. for the Garmin. One of the options is to buy a Silent voice file. All directional information is silent. Sounds like what you want.

The 660 allows you to choose "None" under Wrench/Navigation/Voice-Prompts. Does the 760 not have this option?
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

It just has route preference and Avoidances...

Just tried it on a 680 using the simulator.
I'm happy to report that both red light camera and speed trap alerts are NOT muted when the master navigation volume is muted.
