NUVI 660 and Custom POI Issues

I have a NUVI 660 that will not allow me to load custom POI's, that are actually usable. They are installed in a one large file that is in the Garmin\POI directory. Nothing will show up under custom >> Extras, even though there are several custom POI's installed. I have contacted Garmin three separate times about this issue, and did the install per their instructions, with no success. I have also followed the instructions posted here by Motorcycle Mama, again with the same result. I have found three other NUVI 660 users that are having the same issue. I was curious, before I contact Garmin again as to how many other 660 users are having the same issue. It appears to me to be a firmware issue with the 660.

It sounds like you copied the MP3 files with your alert sounds to your nuvi (or your SD card). Don't do that. Remove them. They only need to be on your computer.

OK, My Bad..... the warning mp3's aren't mixed in with my music I just double checked that.. I'm not sure where they are... but when I play my Mp3's and make it skip songs eventually I hit the warning mp3's? anyone got a clue why?
and how can I make it not play those? when I'm maneuvering my mp3 files.

The alert sounds do not need to copied to the nuvi at all.

When you run POI Loader, it compiles all the Custom POI files, Custom Alert sounds, and Custom Icons into a single file named POI.GPI. This file will have all the necessary information.

The only MP3s that you want to have on the nuvi (or on the SD card) are the actual music songs that you wish to listen to. Keep in mind that there's not much room on the nuvi itself for MP3s.

.

It almost sounds to me that you dont want the redlight and speed warnings to play. If that's the case, you will need to reload your POI's without the mp3's present in the folder. This way, the only warning you'll get is a visual.

If, while browsing through your songs, you see any of the alerts (or if they play when you ask it to skip a file), then the alert has, at some point, been copied to the unit.

Assuming you have a Windows computer, with the GPS attached, hit the start button and go to search for files. Ask it to search the GPS and look for "mp3". When it comes up with the list, scan for the alerts and delete them.
