C550 on battery, how long did yours last?

I've left mine on in the car on battery power for about 4 hrs and when I came back the battery was almost dead. I have never actually tried to use it on battery power to see how long it would last. I will give it a try next week as I drive for a living and report back.

I wonder if leaving the unit in the car on hot summer days will have a detrimental effect on the battery?

I have had my C550 for about 1yr and 4months and on battery power stil get about 5hrs.

Garmin says this is true!

My C340 has virtually no battery life at all! If I shut it off, and leave it plugged into a hot outlet, the battery drains. sometimes, the battery drains when the unit is being used on car power.
Garmin's battery l;ife estimate are total B.S.

How old is your c550? Maybe your battery is degrading due to age and use. I often use my c530 on my motorcycle. I program in my final destination and the just ride. Many times I do not follow the route the GPS calculated for me. This causes it to keep recalculating. Using it in that manner defenitely drains the battery faster.

I have a c 530 and I consistently get 4-41/2 hrs on the battery. I have had the unit for two years.

I have a C550 and can consistency get between 4 - 5 1/2 hours without charging. Bluetooth on will shorten that amount greatly. I've had my unit for about 2 years.

Mine is 2-week old so the battery must not be the problem...

That's long! What was your backlight setting when you had it lasted that long? I had mine at 100% (because it was on my motorcycle under direct sun light) and it lasted 2 1/2 hours...
