Here's A Starting Point

If you'd like to start the project, here's a site with lots of stations pre-plotted. It even has a gpx file you can download. http://erikdemaine.org/maps/mbta/

thats a great idea.

i would use the ones for Wash DC a lot.

Sounds like a great project!
When are you going to start it?
I can help, I will send you a map of NYC subways, which has thousands of stops.
Unfortunately, that would be a MAJOR undertaking, but if you are willing, go for it!

Washington DC Metro

There are a few subway files already at POI-factory that seem pretty good. They can be found under "transportation".

I've looked at the DC Metro file and the author, "kaiserb", seems to have attended to the two major concerns.

One: For the outlying stations, commuters want to get to a place near the track to park their automobiles. Those are pretty much the locations I'd have picked (at least the Orange Line).

Two: Downtown, those stations have three or four different street entrances. Man, oh man. It gets hot and muggy down there in August. Walking to the nearest entrance can mean saving a block or two of treading. And that could save your life! surprised

Looks like good work done. Thanks! smile

I took the Washington Metro

I took the Washington Metro station file, and broke it up into individual files for each line. That way, I can use color-coded Metro symbols that correspond to the line(s) served by the station. I even use a separate file for L'Enfant Plaza, since there are four lines (Blue, Orange, Yellow, and Green) served by this station.
