C550 start-up time?

Hi all,

My new Garmin C550 took anywhere from 5-10 minutes to acquire the satellites outdoor when it was powered on after being powered off for 10 hours or overnight. Is this normal?

I thought the SiRF III chip set is much better than the older generation in my Navman iCN 510 and the NavMan came up usually less than 5 min in similar circumstances (powered off for overnight).

Anywhere from 15 seconds to 1 minute max on my unit.

nuvi 250w

The same for me, 15 or 20 sec to max 1 min.
I am not in the city, this can make a difference if you are.

Mine usually locks on under a minute.

Sometimes it may take more if the location of where it was turned off and where it's turned back on is of significant distance.

It will also take more time if you begin to move before sat lock.

Try turning it on and leaving it stationary for at least 20 min after satellites are locked.
I recall reading that somewhere, and filed it for future use, but I've not had to use it. So, can't say for sure if it will help your problem.

Lock on time

After one night and some time 24 hours and more with out using it. I dont see how this can change the lock on time????

It took 21 sec. inside the house to lock on.

What firmware version are

What firmware version are yours? Mine is the latest 6.5.

Every morning even I put it in full view of the sky, it still took several minutes to find the satellite. When I turned it off and on during the day, it was fast.

I wonder if it has something to do with this latest firmware (as happened to the Nuvi)? Can I revert to an older version of firmware for my C550 and how? The Webupdater doesn't let us downgrade...

Found different version of

Found different version of firmware on Garmin's site. I downloaded from v.6.0 to v.6.50 for the C550.
