Why is There NO Dedicated button for Work?

I don't know about other manufacturers, but Garmin only has a Home and a Favorite button. I certainly don't consider work my Favorite destination.

Then use the Home button

And put your home location in your favorites.

Then maybe you should consider a new line of work.

Set work as 'Home'

I keep my work site set as my home location because that's the point I return to most frequently as a delivery driver. Not that I don't know how to get there, but it comes in handy for extracting myself from the depths of a convoluted subdivision. I have a "house' favorite that gets me to the place where I live, but I hardly ever use it.

I also like to set a favorite on my car when I'm parked at WalMart. Makes it easier to find on the way back out. smile

.

I know how to get to my workplace. I wish I didn't, but I typically don't need guidance to get there. : )

More to the point, though, is that I'm typically not traveling to work from an unknown location. I'm typically traveling there from home.

With the "Home" location, however, I believe that it's there because you will often travel out away from home and it gives you a quick way to tell the unit, "Get me home".

.

I agree with MM.

I do have my work listed in favorites. I don't normally select work as a "go to" each day I go to work...however, should there be a traffic problem, I can "go to" work and detour as needed.

Enter the address and use the "Recently Found" selection grin

Point of View

Just think of "Home" as not YOUR home, but the home base of the GPSr. That can be any place, including work.

Work in favorites

I put work in my favorites just for traffic and detour purposes. It seems kinda counter intuitive to call work a "favorite" though.

My c340 has my home as

My c340 has my home as "Home" and my work as one of my favorites. The c580 we use at my work has my work address set as "Home".

Work

I have 14 different work locations in my Favorites. I entered them with the address, including suite number where applicable and the phone numbers as well so I can use the bluetooth function to call them while on the road. I need the locations in the unit as I don't visit most of them very often and I have no brain cells to remember how to get to the places.

I admit that having work locations as favorites is bizarre but....

I guess I could re-do them as a custom POI instead.

And then there are some of us who don't need a 'work' button ... "retirement is a bi--h, but someone has to do it"!

I agree completely. I use my garmin primarily for traffic between work and home every day. I have had that same thought many times.

Though, I must say the discovery of the wonderful world of POIs has allowed me to clear all the clutter from my favorites list so I no longer have to page through 4 pages of friends and family addresses, various doctors offices, and other places I go to frequently enough that I need to store them but not frequently enough that I remember how to get there to get to my WORK entry.

How true."WORK" is a four letter word. I'm sure glad I don't use that word. smile

Set your work as your home. I'm pretty sure most people are at work more then they are at home. So so sad.

User assigned hotkeys...

Personally I never thought of a "work" button since that does not apply, but that raises a nice feature that Garmin may want to include in future firmware.

It would be nice if on the main screen where you can choose "home" or "favorites" or "food", etc that there could be one or two user assigned/customized hot-keys that can be named anything the user wanted with a graphic of choice.
