750 Startup Screen

Thanks for the response, but I'm referring to the intial Garmin startup screen. The very first screen that appears when you start the 750.

You might get that picture and try it...

BTW I don't think you can get to the original splash screen... I mean it's not a file in the garmin folder...

There's something definitely corrupted on my 750. I ran the diagnostics and on the inventory screen the splash screen shows as "Fail".

If the link doesn't help I'll call Garmin tomorrow.

But I have my doubts if you are getting a fail message...

I am assuming that you did not back up your unit, but if you did, you could copy the information back to it.

I have a picture of my wife and I as a splash screen, I checked the inventory screen and it also said fail. I unchecked the picture I was using so it is the garmin splash screen and it no longer says fail...

You might try loading a picture and making it your splash screen, then unchecking it... See what happens...

If you plan to make your own, the photos are 480X272 pixels. The file name on the 680 was d_splsh_scrn.jpg

Very easy to customize if you have a program like Photoshop. Good luck.

There is no .jpg file called d_splsh_scrn.jpg or any other .jpg file that is the splash screen... I'm not sure if all 7xx series are the same in that respect. While testing last night I at times did end up with a blank screen when I de-selected a picture and went back to the original splash screen. That is why I think the 750 may "think" it's displaying a .jpg file and is stuck for some reason. If you gave it something to display such as a .jpg file, it might resolve the issue..

When in doubt and you need an answer why not call Garmin (outstanding customer service) instead of getting into screens that weren't meant to be gotten into by the consumer. Normally we just screw things up because we don't know what we are doing...I learned my lesson a long time ago...Some people may be good at this but most are a disaster...

Well, my unit is hosed. I just got off the phone with two second level support people at Garmin and they were stumped. It's never a good thing when the second level support person says "I've never seen that before". They said my only recourse at this point is to send it to them for repair, which would take 2-3 weeks. I told them I'm just returning it to Sams's Club for a replacement!

I was just curious if you tried re-installing Version 3, the firmware version before 3.10 ?

I don't know if that would help you, but I went back to Version 3 after my 750 went black and froze after the 3.10 update.

Dispatched - Yes, I actually installed version 2.2 to try to override all of the firmware files, then reinstalled 3.1. But no luck.

There is another topic on this http://www.poi-factory.com/node/15822 that mentions the dimensions as 480 x 212 to allow room for cropping.

after going into picture viewer on my 750 nuvi,and selecting one of the factory jpeg's to start on my nuvi as a splash screen, just to see if I liked it, boy was I getting into trouble.I thought if I liked the jpeg start up screen, I would insert my own jpeg.so what happened after sucessfully viewing factory jpeg,I unchecked jpeg so unit would revert to original start screen,then powered down unit,then tried to restart, screen locked up with various colored lines running through it.I tried everything manual said to get it unfrozen,but couldn't,also I had updated unit to ver.3.10 when it first was released,and had noticed a few minor things going wrong,finally I had to take nuvi back.Also when plugging unit into computer usb port, computer would not recognize unit, so I could not revert back to another software version.

hello Dispatched, yes I really like the ease of using the garmin and so far I have really been satisfied, this being my first gps,luckily I had it only a short time and just exchanged it.

Are you running 3.10 on your new unit ?

no I haven't done any updates to this one, it came with 3.0 and 2009 maps just going to hang loose for awhile and see if they revise 3.10 or do another update. I saw in someother post here where other users maybe having promblems with 3.10.I am not sure at all even if that was my problem.
