Thanks very much for the links..There's been a lot of new developments around Marine Way in Burnaby..and I don't see it in the new map update...anyone from my area?

That area is too too new to have made it to the 2009 update

No, they don't show in the 2009 update. The shops in that area didn't even make it to the built-in POI file.

You know the construction area at the north end of the Queenborough bridge? It's always fun to see my nuvi 760 go crazy when I navigate the ever-changing detours in that crazy part of the construction.

Thanks for the

What would you like to know? I didn't have the 2008 map for very long (2 days?) before I upgraded to the 2009 version, so I can't make a comparison.

Nitrade, Thanks for the

You can check out the map in your area and decide if you think it would be worth the cost...

I live in south Burnaby, just a few miles from all of the new developments around the Marine Way and Byrne Road area and I have the 2009 maps and can tell you that the new developments do not show on these maps. That said, it is still your call as to whether you feel it's worthwhile to purchase these maps or not. One may see the omission of the Marine Way developments as a dealbreaker and will not purchase the update. I've chosen to look at the bigger picture because the 2009 updates will show other new developments in other parts of Canada and the U.S. as well as have an updated POI database. Since I do a fair bit of travel through Washington and Oregon I felt that it was worthwhile for me to purchase the 2009 update. As a funny aside, the 2008 maps do not show the Harrison Hotsprings resort in the Fraser Valley but the 2009 update does show it. The resort has been around for decades.

Sorry, I can't tell you whether the upgrade is worth it or not. I bought my 760 back in May and it came with the 2008 map. I used it for a couple of days. I then registered it at garmin and immediately downloaded my free 2009 upgrade.

My mindset with regards to upgrades would be to treat the GPS like paper maps for the most part. Meaning, I probably will not care if there's road changes here or there. The paper maps I've used served me well for well over 5 years (some close to 10 years).

What may force me to upgrade the GPS more often (maybe every 2 or 3 years) is the built-in POI file that comes with the map upgrade. POIs would tend to change more often than roads. There may come a time when I'm urgently looking for something important and the POI won't be there because it has closed or moved, etc. Or it would direct me to a POI 10 miles away when the same establishment (a new POI) is just a block from where I am. I would hate for that to happen.

Nitrate, good points and am

Nitrate, good points and am in total agreement with your rationale. There will always be new developments occurring all around and if we get hung up over omitted new developments and roads we may never purchase map updates.
