2009 Map update download version versus DVD version

I have never used the "downloaded" version of the update, only the DVD update. When I use the DVD version, when all is completed, I have the 2009 maps loaded on the GPS SP2820 AND it is loaded in Mapsource.

My question is:
Has any one with the downloaded version of the update noticed if the 2009 map is not only loaded on the GPS, but is also loaded on the computer and available for use in Mapsource too?

I already had maqsource installed

And it did losd it to MapSource. If you didn't already have MapSource installed I'm not sure, but I don't beleive it will...

I haven't installed

I haven't installed MapSource yet but after updating my Nuvi 200 from the downloaded 2009 update program, I have a folder named C:\Garmin where the files were unpacked.

I suspect the files under that folder in CNNANT2009 are what MapSource uses (lots of "img" extension files plus a few other types.

The 2009 Map was available after downloading.

I downloaded the 2009 map update to my nuvi 750. Some time later, after reading about the benefits of using MapSource, I downloaded that program to my desktop and I noticed that it was using the 2009 map. Given this sequence it is possible to conclude that when using the download procedure, the 2009 version will be available on the computer for use with the MapSource program. At least that was my experience.

I had to "unlock" the 2009 map in MapSource

I had an old version of MapSource installed on my desktop PC, but had used a laptop to update my GPSr. Garmin gave me a link to update MapSource. Next they had me re-download and install the 2009 maps to the GPSr using the desktop PC. Finally in MapSource I had to read the unlock code from my GPSr.

In MapSource:
Utilities | Unlock Maps then "Yes" you have a code and then "The unlock code is in my GPS". All worked fine afterwards.

Larry ... Garmin Nuvi 650

Different but similar experience as above

I downloaded the 2009 update on one of my desktops (not my main one) and updated my nuvi 760 on that PC. After reading the benefits of Mapsource here, I contacted Garmin. Garmin showed me a way to download it using their link (i.e. they had me download Training Center first, and then the Mapsource software itself.) But I did all these on my main PC which did not have the 2009 update. (Garmin did not know I was working on a 2nd PC and I did not have a clue that it mattered...)

After realizing the situation, Garmin gave me 2 options: download the 2009 again (they extended the grace period for me) or copy the file over from my 1st PC. I did the 2nd option and Garmin had me extract the 2009 mapset. When I brought up Mapsource, it automatically detected the 2009 maps and asked me for an unlock code. I entered the code as it appeared on my Garmin account. All was well after that.
