Mapsource

I cranked up a new computer, and do not have a Mapsource disk. I send an e-mail to Garmin and asked for Mapsource to develop routes and manage my favorites on my Nuvi 750. I get a reply that they are sending me Mapsource. Then, this morning, I get another reply saying they are sending me City Navigator NT 2009 (which is already loaded on my Nuvi - which I purchased from a source other than Garmin). I didn't think that Mapsource was on the CNNT 2009 DVD. Anybody know if it is? Also, when I receive the DVD, would it be safe to load it again (would it be overwriting the same files)?

Thanks for any help......... Joel

Yes

Mapsource is on the CNNT 2009 disk. If they are not sending an update disk, you can just load the Mapsource onto your computer and you will have the same program that is running on you Unit. I would also go to the website and download the latest update for the Mapsource program.

There is no need to re-load the software onto your unit.

You don't get MapSource on CNNT 2009 but

You can download MapSource from Garmin and install CNNT2009 by running CNNANT2009Update_ENU.msi on the disk at: DVE>windows>msi>CNNANT2009Update_ENU.msi

MapSource keeps track of maps and units so if you have different units the same software can be unlocked for each unit if you have the unlock codes....

Edit: I should have said MapSource is not on the update disk of CNNT 2009

It is, but not as easy to get to.

If you do have the 2009 DVD

If you do have the 2009 DVD , you can load Mapsource on your PC , explore the DVD in the window file there is a msi file go in there and choose the CNNT 2009 of the language you like and clic on it this will install Mapsource on the pc , but you will need the 25 digit code to unlock the maps .

Just go to Garmin downloads

Just go to Garmin downloads and you will find MapSource there. Download it and run the install. IMO this is the the simplest way to do it. I was having same questions and contacted Garmin Tech, They suggested this as an easey way to do it and it was.

.

The downloadable MapSource file is an update only. You must have MapSource already installed on your computer for the update to work.

mapscource

You COULD consider downloading mapsourse from the Garmin site and SELL the 2009 maps and unlock codes------ to me.

Mapsource download file is a full install

I don't think that's correct. I didn't have Mapsource on my computer, and I was able to download the 47MB (if I recall) Mapsource install file from Garmin and it installed properly on my Win XP machine. It was a very easy process.

You are incorrect, but thanks. Mapsource IS on the update DVD, but you have to go look for it. I got the proper advice from Patricia @ Garmin, and it worked. It was even the latest version of Mapsource. Now I have a full version copy of City Navigator NT (thanks to Garmin). I sent them an e-mail offering to return it to them, but haven't heard back from them. They have been very helpful to me, so the least I can do in return is to be gracious with them and return the product. Their tech support has been outstanding, and I'll support their products as a result.
Thanks to all for your help............

redface I was fairly certain I had tested running the msi file without having MapSource installed, but much to my chagrin, I retested running the msi file on another of my computers this A.M. and it did load MapSource...

You are a good person to admit the mistake - but hey - no foul, and glad you found that you CAN install Mapsource from the update DVD.

Thanks.......... Joel

Thanks for your kind words, Joel. It's always great to see you around here.

I don't know...

If admitting mistakes makes you good, if so I should be a saint... but I also say thank you for being understanding... wink
