760 bug: "Search Near" "My Current route" display

I believe I've come across a bug when searching "Search Near" "My Current Route".

Can anyone else confirm the same behavior?
(by the way, I have software version 3.00)

To reproduce the problem you would first enter a destination, and let nuvi calculate the route, then do "Where To?", "Near...", "Select: My Current Route", OK, and select POIs that you would have more than 4 along your route.

After displaying the first page (four entries), and scrolling down to see the next page, the distance and orientation for the next page gets updated, but the names of POIs remain fixed with those from the first page.

This wouldn't be an issue if you only have up to 4 POIs on your route, but if there are more, then you only get to see the names for the first four.

I was tweaking some speed alerts along my route, so I needed to see all of them to see which ones needed adjustment, but I would only be able to see the name of the first four, even though information on the right hand side (distance and orientation) was updated for the next pages.

Of course, if your search would yield 4 or less results, then the above wouldn't be an issue.

I just reported this to Garmin and will update answer here when received.

Only with Custom POI's

My 760 only does this with custom POI's. It does not do this with the built-in POI's. That's really bizarre. Those entries that have a 2-line display will update the second line, the direction and distance but the name will stay the same. And if you click on it, it brings up the actual POI data, which does not match the name displayed in the list. Interesting catch.

Built-in POIs fine, custome POI not

johnc,

You are right. Same here, the built-in POIs work fine. The issue only happens with custom POIs.

Thanks,

Good info

I guess I'll have to watch this thread for further info. Thanks for taking the time to report this to Garmin. I'll be watching to see if you post a response by Garmin.

Mine seems to be ok with it

Mine seems to be ok with it as well. No Near issues that I have seen...YET!

Bug and Garmin tech support response saga

Well, I reported the problem to Garmin, just expecting some confirmation of the problem, and something along the lines "We will consider fixing this in future releases", but instead I was first advised to "fix it" by performing a hard-reset, and was given very detailed instructions on how to do that. Surprisingly, the hard-resent did not fix the bug - Not impressed! besides, there had not been any attempt to reproduce the problem.

Second I was asked to send "sample files" for them to reproduce the problem, which I prepared and sent over, only to receive an erroneous reply from Garmin addressed to another name, providing resolution to an issue unrelated to mine - Not impressed!

Then I replied letting them know about the erroneous message sent to me, obviously not addressing my issues, and asked about my problem report. I was asked to re-send the files for them to reproduce the problem, which I did again, but NO further answer to that one - Still not impressed!

Finally, I decided to call the support line, had to wait for about 1/2 Hr to talk to a person, nice guy, but after 15 minutes or so of explaining the problem in detail and pointing out the files I had prepared for them to reproduce the problem, he told me he would transfer me to the next level of support, so here goes another 15 minutes waiting for someone to answer the line, at this point in time I gave up and hung-up - Even less impressed!

At least the problem was not that big of a deal.

Eventually I had to upgrade the software to version 3.1 to address a different unrelated issue, and voila, the "Search Near..." bug has been fixed in that version, but as I have read in other posts, it seems that it also introduced some new bugs. Oh well!
