Can I delete languages I'm not using?

To free up more space for IMPORTANT stuff (like POI's) can I go into the language folder of my Nuvi 760 and delete the languages I'll never use?

Yes

For some reason, when I upgraded to 2009 map on my Nuvi 200, I got an error telling me not enough space on my device. I found this strange since it was brand new and I added nothing to it before the upgrade. At any rate, I was able to get just enough space to avoid the error message by removing the foriegn languages. I actually kept copies on my PC just in case even though I removed them from the Nuvi.

Back up

I copied the entire contents of my 760 to my computer when I got it and then deleted all the voice files except for the few I was interested in keeping. I also deleted the sample audio book snippet and anything else I had no use for.

Yes, you can. You can also delete the jpeg's, unused voices, vehicles and the translations of the Help files that you don't need.

On the other hand, a 4Gig SD card will hold a LOT of custom POI's.

This is good to know as I need more space on my 750.

Delete things you don't need

I have done the exact things as Thrak has described, especially the languages. I don't think I'll ever learn Danish, Swedish .... Why not delete them? I did it when I got my Nuvi 660.

Heh...

Those are the two extra languages I kept.

Choice of languages

Although I've set my unit to all French, I've kept the American-English language files because I'm not sure that the French-Canadian text to speech of English street-names will be understandable when I'll be going down to the US.

I also made a full backup of all the files in the unit after I updated the software and the maps on it. I used 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/ to compress the whole thing and keep the folder structure.
