mp3 Files (only seem to work with Speed, Redlight etc.)

I have been Experimenting with bmp and mp3 files. My mp3 files only seem to work when I save them with a (Speed,Redlight etc.)in the file. I have a Dunkin Donut csv file and I only want the the mp3 file to work if I select a Dunkin Donut site from my custom poi file. Is there a way to do this or am I missing something. The bmp files work fine.

Select??

What do you mean "Select a site from my custom POI file"?

Alerts work for all the POIs within the file.

Manual Mode

POI Loader doesn't automatically enable alerts for most files.

To trigger the sounds, you usually need to use POI Loader's "Manual Mode" to change the alert settings for files that have matching sounds.

JM

mp3 files

When I goto a typical custom poi File (Example Dunkin Donuts)I have a mp3 flie attached, unless I use speed or redlight in the file name I wont get an alert.

Use Manual mode

Don't use Express mode with POI loader. Use the Manual mode and you will get screens that let you set a proximity alert. As long as you uploaded the mp3 at the same time as the database and they both have exactly the same name (other than the extension) then you will get the alert.

You cannot do what you desire. If you turn on the alerts in manual mode, they will all alert whenever you hit the proximity distance. You cannot get an alert ONLY when you select a POI.

Alerts on Garmin XT

Hi,
I have posted a couple of request for help on here, but no replies have been received.
I have tried all methods,(naming files the same as the POI - Wat.MP3/Wat.redlight.MP3/BMP/GPX/CSV etc etc) but I only get the BMP I created displayed, and NO alerts at all.
There are also no names for the POI displayed (normal?)
I've tried Manual mode in POI Loader, and spent hours renaming and setting proximities, with and without speeds, but I get absolutely "zip"!
Is there some bug with Garmin XT (there's no provision for waypoints), or am I doing something wrong?
I have been trying on a daily basis to get some sort of alert (default or MP3), and I'm at the end of my tether now.
I am using a Nokia N82 black edition, and the Garmin map of Cambodia (non-navigable, but detailed) is otherwise flawless.
I am in urgent need of any suggestions at all (constructive please!), as alerts for turns in the road sre a lifesaver in this coutry, with jungles, rivers and dead end tracks being a dangerous detour.
Oh yeah - I'm using the **.60 version.
Thanks all.

I think that maybe the reason that you haven't gotten replies is that not very many people here are familiar with that unit.

Here's my stab in the dark. The unit must have an MP3 player supported in the GPS firmware in order for MP3 alerts to work. That unit's firmware does not have a built in MP3 player, so MP3 alerts will not work on it.

You might try them as WAV files. I have no idea whether it would work on the XT The nuvi 2xx users (whose units also don't have MP3 players) have had success with this. I don't know all details, but you need something names SOX (or something like that). Search it out on the forum and you should find a long, detailed thread.

mp3 file alerts

Thanks Bentbiker,I concur,I experimented in SIMULATOR mode and got the same results.

Thanks for the suggestion

Hi MM.
Thanks for the response to my query.
I tried to load the MP3 files as wav's, but POI loader doesn't like that!
I even tried to get alerts via 'default' beeps, but nothing doing.
Oh well, looks like I'll have to keep checking the web to see if anyone has a solution.
Again, Thanks.
Paul

Don't know if this will make it work, but you need to use version 2.5.2 of POI Loader -- earlier versions don't support wav. Also, the wav file must be mono (16 bit worked for me) and SOX.exe (from http://sourceforge.net/projects/sox/ ) must be in the same folder/directory as POI Loader.
