MP3's and NUVI

What program do you use to make a playlist on an SD card for your NUVI? I would like to place a bunch of individual songs on a card and then create several playlists to choose from.

Never Had So Many Problems Before

I think I must be doing something wrong as well. The playlist that I have created using Windows Media Player transferred fine into a no frills Insignia MP3 Player, but it will not show up on my Garmin 760.

Is the Garmin not compatible with the Media Player playlists?

M3U

Models with the mp3 player will recognize .m3u playlist files. I put my m3u playlists in the same folder as the mp3 music files on my SD card.

Are the songs you are using the the Windows Media Player MP3 format or some other format? The nuvi will only recognize songs that are in MP3 format while WMP can play many formats.

MP3 Player

Hi Motorcycle Mama,

they are all MP3's, and the songs do show up on the SD card (I am using a 2 Gb SD Card) in my nuvi 760, but when I go into playlists, the only options I get is to create a new one. None of the playlists I have show up.

I'll try again tomorrow and see whether I am doing something wrong, but the Insignia MP3 (really el-cheapo) worked just fine.

Ah, I get what you are saying now.

Here's the format that I used on my playlists.


#EXTM3U
#EXTIN193,Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes
\garmin\mp3\Jack Johnson\In Between Dreams (Bonus Track Version)\03 Banana Pancakes.mp3
#EXTIN240,Jack Johnson - If I Had Eyes
\garmin\mp3\Jack Johnson\Sleep Through the Static\06 If I Had Eyes.mp3
Janis Joplin\Janis Joplin's Greatest Hits\01 Piece of My Heart.mp3
#EXTIN210,Jack Johnson - Better Together
\garmin\mp3\Jack Johnson\In Between Dreams (Bonus Track Version)\01 Better Together.mp3

And I placed the .M3U file in the garmin directory on my SD card.

So the file structure on the card is like this as is corresponds to the songs and the location of the playlist.

It's important that the folder references are correct.
