nuvi mp3 player question...

I thought that I read somewhere, that when using the Source button in the mp3 player, that you could switch between the onboard memory and the SD card when selecting mp3's to play.

when I tap on Source, I only go from mp3 to the sample Audible book files that came on the unit, and back.

I don't seem to be able to pick from the two locations.

when I first power the unit up, it retrieves the mp3's for creating playlists, or choosing to play an individual track, or select multiple tracks, but the nuvi doesn't show any folder structure per se, only displaying the tracks based on the tag info.

is this what others experience? :?

It combines all MP3's

Your Nuvi reads both internal and external memory for MP3's and lists all of them. The Source button lets you switch between Audible Books or MP3's. It's not intended for switching between storage areas.

I Hope You Didn't Read That

You must use the ID3 Tags to create "structure". Proper utilization of Albums, Artist, Title, and Genre should allow you to pull up anything quite easily.

Does the Nuvi only read .mp3

Does the Nuvi only read .mp3 and .aa files? I have a non-Audible audiobook I wanted to put on my Nuvi 760 but it won't let me bookmark .mp3 files, which is very annoying.

This is a frequent complaint, but, yes, it only plays those two formats, and no bookmarks on mp3s -- it does kinda return to the same area of the book if you pause it, unless you try to play something else before returning.

Ah. Thank you.

I was also kind of pining my hopes on the thought that someone might eventually break the .aa format but all the work on that is going the other way (converting .aa files to .mp3). Perhaps someday.

360 also?

Do you know if this is true for the 360 as well? I haven't been able to find any of my mp3s that I stored on the card, only in the GPS itself.

Yes

Yes, but again, there will be no categorization showing the SD card -- all of the songs are lumped together, regardless of their location. Categories are by the ID3 tags -- title, author, album, genre, etc.

Argh

Yep, just had to delete them and reload them for some reason, then they all appeared. Thanks!
