OK folks, need to buy the cheapest, most bang for the buck GPS currently in the market

I have a Garmin C330 that is getting old. I need another one for my other car. With all new stuff coming out I will need your advise on what to get. I just need a basic one that can announce the street. Responders, please indicate why you think what you are suggesting is worth it. Tango Mucho Good Buddies.
As I've mentioned in the title..the cheapest yet most bang for the buck GPS. exclaim

.

You've already defined what you want, or what you consider "bang"....basic plus street names. In a Garmin, that's the nuvi 255 or 260, whichever you find cheapest.

How much is cheap? Do you plan on traveling with it?

The most economical GPS that announces street names.

Cheap..but works is what I need. Of course good graphics, being accurate, portable and battery life are also important. Modifiable streets a plus since I heard there are ones out there that can do that. Garmin is ok but I want to look over the hedge too. Thanks for the replies.

Cheap..but works

How about the Magellan 3225.Check out this link

That rules out the cheapest Garmin units.
I have the Nuvi 200 at $150. I received it as a gift. At first I thought I would be dissapointed that the street names are not announced, but actually its not an issue to me. When I am driving in unfamiliar areas, I like that it says "next street" so I know to turn on the next street, especially in areas where streets signs are not always there (common in Southeast Michigan). If needed, the name is displayed in large letters on the top of the display so I can get it at a quick glance.

How much does that Navigon go for?

nüvi 200

The 200 gives you the most bang for the buck and is the cheapest GPS. The more expensive models just give you more bells and whistles. The GPS features are essentially the same.

What about satellite aquisition?

I too have been wondering what GPSr brand and model provides the best bang for the buck - considering both name brands and generics. I did not see anything in the other posts regarding satelite aquisition. Is this not also something that might differ from one device to the next? Or, do all devices now have the same/adequate capability?

the Garmin C550 is now going for as low as $189 on buy.com. Just replaced my C330. I like the text to speech and the bluetooth along with the ease of adding POIs. Got mine from Costco.com for $199.

This is an exceptional deal. Not the absolute cheapest, but a great bang for the buck deal.

Your best bet is to go to Best Buy or somewhere else and look at what is available. Everyone has a different opinion of cheap and best. Take some time and do some investigation for yourself and you will be much happier. Keep in mind you get what you pay for....

I almost sprung for one of these, but then decided to get the 750. Still $299 at Sams Club too.

Tough choice!

That's a great deal, too. I own both the 350 and 760 and I would conclude that the extra $100 for the 750 was worth it and go for the 750 as "best bang for buck". The difference in screen clarity in sunlight and the wider viewing angle is VERY nice and well worth the differential. If the buyer is really just interested in a basic unit, then the 350. All depends if you're just looking for something basic or you want a little more.

I'm a little leery of the other sub-$200 units and would wonder if the access to upgrades would be as well supported as the inexpensive Garmins.

Look at this

The size factor of the Nuvi 350 is very attractive for me because I can easily carry it around; in my shirt pocket even. The small size and awesome functionality can't be beat. If you don't intend on transporting it around outside of the vehicle, then the 750 with its wider screen is definitely a good bang for buck. =D

Nuvi Recommendation

The Nuvi from 350 on up is a solid unit that can be purchased at deep discounts online (try Ebay first). I have had no issues with my 660 and would recommend it $ for $ over other units.

nuvi 260!

nuvi 260!

I second Nuvi 350 too

Get the nuvi 350 from amazon for $199.99 shipped. Best bang for the buck.

Speedbrkr got it right

Speedbrkr has it right. Nuvi 760 has come down in price making it best bang/buck. I sold my c340 a few months back, and using that money for new nuvi 760. I think the c550 and nuvi 360 also great buys as they're making way for new models with remote control and voice recognition.

Navigon

You can get the Navigon 2100 Max with 4.3" screen for $199 at Costco, which is $100 less than BB or CC. But for that kind of money, even on sale, I'd lean towards Garmin. Who knows how long Navigon will be in business? With the way the world is today, they could be gone before you know it due to the fierce competition on prices now a days for GPS.

It's the little things

It's the little things that mean so much. Like being able to touch the street map and get instantaneous lat/long or street address. Most of the other makes don't give street address by merely touching the point on the street. Navigon boasted the "reality-view" but that turned out to be a generic picture that was static or unchanginging that hung there while you were still moving. Navigon and Sony are good but Nuvi 760 much better for the buck.

There is no latitude and longitude display on a c530. The only way to find a location using latitude and longitude is to build a custom POI and load it.

I just got my Garmin C550, used www.nextag.com to find the best deal on it, but I would trade the "bluetooth" for voice recognition. Otherwise it has everything I need and the price was right $189
