grayed-out .csv file in Mac

So... following all the steps... the .csv file I download is grayed-out in my Mac finder window. No way to browse to it and select it with the Garmin POI loader for Mac.

I saw this same issue in a search, but beyond me to come up with the answer. Anybody?

Kevin

Try This

Hello Kevin,
Welcome to the site ! Try creating a new folder and dump the csv file in it. Direct the poi loader to the newly created folder containing the csv file.

I have a nuvi 660, MacBook

I have a nuvi 660, MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.3
All the latest updates, for everything.
This is very frustrating.

Tried that.

Tried that.

Once you have downloaded

Once you have downloaded into your downloads folder move the file to your desktop or another folder. Then try using POI Loader to load the file.

Another thought is after the

If you have Numbers open the file using Numbers. Once it is open in Numbers export it to a CSV format and then try POI Loader. it's a little round about but it should work fine.

OK, I feel like a total

OK, I feel like a total doofus now. You're right... I was trying to select the poi download, instead of selecting a folder of poi downloads.

Thank all! We needed this list of campgrounds for our trip around the Four Corners area for the next three weeks! Can't wait!

That's great glad you were

That's great glad you were able to solve it! One thing I would recommend if you plan on downloading a lot of POI's it to create folders and sub folders. For example my folder hierarchy looks somthing like this:

1. Documents
2. Garmin Files
3. Garmin POI
4. Then the category folder like: Campgrounds or whatever categories you choose.

It's a little work up front but if you plan on downloading a lot of POIs it makes it a lot easier to locate them on your GPS.

Congratulations

That's Great News Kevin,
Just remember when you add new poi's to place them in the same folder and load all of them...

In other words, Be sure to include the campgrounds csv file with you add other files because the poi loader will write over your last upload.....

Cool! Thanks for all the

Cool! Thanks for all the tips. This is, of course, my first GPS, so I appreciate all the help I can get.

Adding Icons

You can add icons to your files as long as they have the same name and are in the same folder together..

In other words, if you have a file called campgrounds.csv you can add a .bmp icon and it will show up on your nuvi when you are zoomed in...

For example you could add this cool arrowhead icon created by tkibble

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/12364

Just change the name from arrowhead.bmp to campground.bmp and place it in the same folder with the campground.csv file

Still Not Working

I have tried every one of the above steps... none is working. Every time I get a greyed out .csv file that I cannot load into the Garmin. I have Excel, not Numbers. Is that the problem? This is extremely frustrating to me because I am generally proficient with my Mac and this has proved almost impossible. I have downloaded POI Organizer and that did not help. Is there something I am doing wrong?

.

Are you sure to be selecting the FOLDER and not the FILE?
