What about Naxtar

I have a NUVI 350 for about a year and a half and I am not thrilled with it for a number of reasons. I would like to buy a different brand as a gift for my wife and saw the this at Buy.com http://tinyurl.com/4fl57o
Does anyone here have experience with the Naxtar brand. The price and features look like a perfect inexpensive package.

consumer reports had a

consumer reports had a writeup of gps units in the June issue. I don't think the Nextar was included.

Let's see... cheap and I

Let's see... cheap and I never heard of it. It could be more costly that it would outwardly appear, especially if you have any trouble with it. In my experience, buying cheap isn't usually the least expensive route in the long run unless you have done some serious investigation beforehand. There is a reason why some brands are more well known than others.

You are correct the cheapest is not necessarily the best value. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Naxtar brand.

????

Okay, What don't you like about the NUVI 350? Just curious why people like and dislike the same exact product.

What I don't like

I don't the screen washout in bright sun. It does not charge from the cig lighter when in use.

Sure it does. I have the 350 myself and that's the only place I charge it.

I don't know anything about

I don't know anything about it, but you might find a review of it at:

If you do get one, post a review for the rest of us! Thanks.

Check this one out

This unit is awesome for the money. I am going to buy this one for my car. The nuvi 360 is for my bike. The unit is called Mio C520 http://tinyurl.com/62kue4

My unit never charges when in use. If I turn it off and leave it plugged into the cig lighter it goes into charging mode.

It should...

Are you using the Garmin 'Vehicle Power Cable' (010-10723-06) arrow https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1350 , plugged into the cradle?

If you go into the battery diagnostic page (hold TIME for six seconds, then "next" 4 or so times), it should show the current state.

I found that non-std chargers plugged into the cradle don't work too well, if they can't supply the 1A that the Nüvi can draw with a completely flat battery.

I use the factory cable. If I turn the unit off it goes into charge mode, if I am using it for navigation it will run indefinitely but not charge. This behavior is a nonfactor for me as I have no reason to use it in battery mode. It does charge from the wall charger. Go figure. smile

charging

DoubleTap -

I know you stated this is a nonfactor for you, but Garmin would probably fix/replace your unit for you. I have the nuvi360 and is most certainly charges while in use w/ cig lighter

I wish it were so

You could still try to

You could still try to contact their support. They might do send you a replacement for free. Garmin's support does wonders..

Explain to Garmin that you didn't realize that it was supposed to charge while operating thru the cig. lighter, and that you learned of this problem after complaining about this 'feature' on one a forum site. They'll probably help you out.
