Question regarding Nuvi 770...

I recently bought a Nuvi 770 for both personal and business use. I drive a Tow Truck and was wondering if there are any programs i can load up on my NUVI to advise me of commercial truck routes. I know one of my other drivers uses a garmin street pilot and i believe that unit has a truck feature in it and is pretty good with the truck routes. Any help with this will be greatly appriciated.

I have a Nuvi 350. Here is

I have a Nuvi 350. Here is what I did to change it to the truck feature. Press settings, Navigation, Click the rectangle on the right of Vehicle, Select your Vehicle, in which case it would be truck. Now press back then back again and your set.

Truck Route

This is not a feature of the 7xx numis. You can change the ICON but that does not change the routing.

Does the 350 change the routing algorithms when the ICON is changed?

No

No. You might want to do a search for "truck routes"; I know it has been discussed before and various alternative units have been mentioned.

Since the 7xx could make

Since the 7xx could make custom routes then I would suggest making your own routes that you know will allow trucks.

Good idea....

The only issue with that is there would be thousands of routes that i would have to input. I am unsure as to how many routes i can enter. As i can be called anywhere at anytime that would be a lot of routes... laugh out loud

Wrong Device

Let's say you had 1000 routes. So what? Routes go from point A to point B. You're at point X wanting to get to route # 367 for example. If you know that you need route #367 and you know the truck way to get there why do you need the 770?

I would think that you want to get from point X to point Y using truck routes as much as possible.

My conclusion is that you have the wrong device for your business.

7xx Routes

BTW I'm not aware of any practical limits on the number of routes that can be downloaded to the 7xx and I currently have 25. Only 10 can be imported at any one time.

Just doing a little reading

And according to this post:

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/11337

it would appear that 3xx and 6xx series nuvis are the only nuvis that have an option that would allow choosing routes that are more suitable for larger vehicles.....

But that isn't going to help the owner of a 7xx nuvi. sad

Nuvi 770 does not have truck routing

I am an RVer and was also disappointed that Garmin did not carry this feature forward on its newer devices. My Garmin StreetPilot had this feature, the comparable TomTom has this feature, but the Nuvi does not.

Large Vehicles

I'm also an RVer and would like to see large vehicle routing. And there are other things I'd like to see:
Altitude, longitude and latitude display. Oh I forget they have it - cancel the route and hold in the satellite button for about 10 seconds - Nope they don't have it as that is not practical.

Truck Routes

My brother is an over the road truck driver and has used a product called Co-Pilot for several years... He swears by it....

He runs his on a computer in his rig ....

Hope you find what you need...

Co-Pilot

I've heard good things about it as well. But the 750 was a no brainer for me as it is highly portable between vehicles. Did I mention that it fits in my shirt pocket and runs for a number of hours on the batteries?

But it is sadly lacking in large vehicle applications.
