SD Card (how to insert into nuvi 260W)

I have a Garmin Nuvi 260W, and a 2GB SD card. I do not know how to inbsert the SD card. I am fearful of pushing it in, and then finding that it was not properly inserted. I hope someone can describe how I should insert the card. Thanks

Only one way to do it.

It won't fit but one way. The cut corner goes in first. The label is on top. Push in till you can't push no more. But here is the important part. "Don't use a hammer" grin I don't think you can put too much force.

My SD card has an arrow to show which side goes in first. I just face the arrow to me and insert it as shown in the arrow.

You should hear a spring loaded "Click" when it is inserted correctly

You can push it in slightly

You can push it in slightly to release and remove the memory card.

SD Card

Better to ask the question now about how to put the card in, then ask the question later, "How do I get it out when you put the card in backward". Remember no question is a dumb question

I don't believe he his 4 days old. I know my 2 year old grandson probably couldn't even ask the question. And obviously I was joking. At least I hope there isn't anyone here that would take a hammer to their GPS. mrgreen

SD card answer

I just bought a 2GB card at Office Depot and popped it in to my Nuvi260w. I was a little worried that it would "get stuck" as well, but I went for it, and it works perfectly. There is only 1 correct way to put it in, with the metal stripes facing AWAY from the screen. You should feel a little resistance, but use your fingernail to snap it in all the way. It shouldn't stick out. Then use your fingernail to push it back out, just like a camera. If you put it in the wrong way, you won't be able to push it in at all and it will feel unbalanced.

OMG!!!! LoL

SD Card

Your advice was appreciated. I followed your instructions.

Putting The SD Card In Wrong Way??

No matter which way you try to put it in it only goes all the way in 1 way. It should only take about 5 to 6 seconds at the most to try all 4 ways.

There are only 4 different ways to try so you have at least a 25% chance of getting it right on the first try, 33% on the second try, 50% on the third time, and 100% on the forth try.

So the solution is just keep trying and it will eventually work!!

And you can't even hurt it in any of the 3 wrong ways.

I think this could be declared FOOL PROOF !!!

Nothing is ever 100% fool proof, as they keep making smarter fools every day e.g. they do more creative things the incorrect way, with intelligence I might add. grin

Actually, there 8 ways to try it, not 4. 4 sides face up, and 4 sides face down. wink

Having done computer system technical support for a good while in my past, I can tell you there is no such thing as fool proof and it will always be possible for someone to find a way to damage it.

This is in no way intended to remark on the OP. Those of us who are comfortable with this stuff forget how much we have learned over decades of experience and take it for granted. Credit the OP with high intelligence for asking first instead of tapping it in with a hammer. grin

I have a question on SD

I have a question on SD cards, since this is such an active topic... what SD cards are acceptable, up to what size? There are currently some great deals on 4 & 8 gig cards from the new CompUSA and from Microcenter I'm receiving in email.

Any recommendations out there? smile

According to Garmin, there is no longer a size limit on the nuvi's!

SD Card mystery solved

I appreciate everyone's help with instructions for inserting the SD card. Afterwards, when I became perplexed by the POI's failuree to recognize the card I sought additional help from you. After reading many different posts and sites that talk about SD cards, the answer to the perplexing situation just came to me: the second little card that was in the package was the SD card, and the larger card that I had inseerted was the adapter for the little card. Once I inserted the little card into the adapter, and placed the combination into the Nuvi 260W slot it functioned as it is supposed to function. Success is very sweet, and I hope that my experience will be of help to someone else. Thanks.

.

It sounds like you purchased a microSD card instead of a full size SD card.

Glad you got it working.
