Use GPS 18 antenna for nRoute with MapSource

Will the GPS 18 antenna that I received with the nRoute program work with MapSource? I have recently purchased a Nuvi 680. Obviously the Nuvi has its own antenna but I am wondering if the stand alone antenna that I recieved with the nRoute program for the computer will work with the MapSource program or must the Nuvi be plugged into the computer?

The computer antenna connects with a usb connect..

The 680 does not use a usb connector for the external antenna....

Edit: hmmmm... just thought is there an antenna connection for the gps that you use with the computer, if so it may work...

I'm not sure if you are referring to the gps or an antenna...

Antenna for computer use with MapSource

I have an antenna that came with my nRoute program to be used with the computer. My question is whether or not that antenna will work with MapSource on the computer? I'm aware that the Nuvi 680 has its own antenna but since I have the other antenna, I was just curious as to whether or not it would work with MapSource. When I purchased the Nuvi I thought that nRoute would be compatible as they are both Garmin. Not so, but I have discovered that if I plan a trip using nRoute, I can import it into MapSource and all my time and effort was not in vain. If something were to happen to the GPS, I was curious as to whether or not the other antenna would work with the computer as it does when I use nRoute.

Thank you for your responses. I really appreciate your thoughts.

Creating POIs

I'm a newbie [just got my Garmin 760 yesterday] and am trying to learn about creating/installing custom POIs. My apologies for the ignorant question but could someone point me in the right direction for learning how to create my own custom POI?

I'm taking my 10 year old son for 'the talk' in a couple weeks and we're going to hit some sites near Austin TX. One is called Krause Springs, for instance, and I'd like to create a POI to get me there. Thanks in advance for your help!

Check out getting started at the top of this page and...

Mapsource does not have an input for GPS signals! Why would you do that??? nRoute works with the GPS18.

The short answer is.. No.

The short answer is.. No.

The long answer: There is nothing MapSource can do with the GPS18, since the GPS18 is nothing more than a receiver--It does not have a POI database, route database, etc., that full GPS units like the Nuvi have. Basically, the GPS18 only sends your coordinates to the nRoute program which provides all the navigation functionality that is built into the Nuvi (and a little more, actually wink). All you can really do is import/export data between MapSource (which can work with your Nuvi) and nRoute, which handles the GPS18 receiver data.
