i am considering to buy a ONE 3rd edition - refurbished for $99
any opinions on this unit ?

I set one up

A friend's son got one as a gift and I set it up for him. It's similar to my One NE (2nd edit.) but it has a few more features then mine. He has the Map Share feature.

The only problem with refurbished is you no new maps

With new tomtom purchases, you get access to new if those maps came out within 30 or 90 days (I forgot which). TomTom has already gotten a map release, I believe and any future map releases would only be available by purchasing the maps (cost $59-$99). You may also lose access to mapshare since mapshare was supposed to be supported only on new maps.

I still think refurbished can be a good bet though, since the previous maps are still very useful and fine for most users. Plus the mapshare feature was overated and buggy, with most of the map errors users submitted never being sent to other users.

The best thing about tomtom was the price and 3rd party applications. If those still fit what you are looking for, I think buy.com refurb is a good deal.

One 3rd Edition

I Love my TomTom. Unless you want a lot of extra bell and whistles this one should suit your fancy. Now if I could just figure out how to download Red lights and Speed cameras to my device from my puter!!!

3rd edition

My wife is happy with hers but then she doesn't care about a lot of fancy features. It gets the job done at a good price.

The only bad thing of Tom tom one 3rd is that it doesn't have SD card, but internal memory.

The unit is great but the sound stopped working I had to send it in to Tom Tom (and pay for shipping to texas sad )it's supposed to be back on tuesday all in all though I love the unit its compact solid and easy to use while driving, the screen is great and you don't have to worry about it blocking up your driving view because again the unit is fairly small.
