Nuvi Vs Streetpilot

I am planing to upgrade my Streetpi;ot c340. I like the features of the c550, specifically (TTS-Street Names, Bluetooth and MP3). I am considering a Nuvi. Can someone tell me which Nuvi model compares to the SP c550 most closely. I do like routing and fm transmitter in addition to other features mentioned, but I am looking for the closest match. The nuvi's overall size appeals to me. My only reservation is the lack of an external volume control.

Go to Garmin.com

And compare various nuvi's with the c550.

c580

I have the c580, which is just the c550 + MSN Direct. In comparison with Nuvi, it's definitely nice having the external volume control. I also understand that due to the larger size, the internal speakers are generally of better quality than the Nuvi. Unfortunately, the SP c580 lacks the following:

* Satellite info screen
* Show current coordinates
* Navigate by coordinates
* Garmin Lock while on (have to turn off power to lock it)

But you'll probably pay significantly more for a Nuvi with the 3 features you mentioned (TTS, BT, MP3).

street pilot vs nuvi

I have both a c330 and a nuvi 660. Overall the 660 has better features ie screen size, response time, mp3, etc. However the volume and lack of a second speaker on the nuvi are a detraction. I'm not sure of your age but if hearing is a concern, understanding verbal directions while on the highway can be a problem with the nuvi. also, consider the age of the maps on the street pilot; they may be 3-5 years old if they haven't been updated.

Garmin Nuvi 760

I think that the Garmin Nuvi 760 would work for you. Someone on this forum or another mentioned somebody having a good price on it this week only. It seems like it was Costco or Sams Club for about $350, which is a pretty nice price for that.

nuvi

I like the nuvi

I have been toying with the idea of "upgrading">>>

but, truthfully, there is not a Nuvi I have examined that has the sound of the C5XX dual speakers...the size of the Nuvis are GREAT, much more convenient than the C5XX but if sound is a very important factor you'll probably not be thrilled with the Nuvi which I find sounds "tinnier"

nuvi vs stree pilot

Another comment on the nuvi volume. My hearing is not too good. I purchased a csssette converter ( about $19) and run the audio through my car's stereo system. This works fairly well but there is some loss of sound quality. Also, you can't use the radio while using the nuvi. However,This is a workable option.

As a point of interest - I am of the age where hearing is a bit of a problem, however, I installed a rather inexpensive panasonic radio in my 31 year old mercedes diesel 300 which has an AUX plug jack on the front for things like an Ipod. I just plug in my Nuvi 370 and have it playing through all 4 speakers of the car. So much for not hearing the one speaker in the Nuvi 370. Really is pretty neat, when I am on an extended trip and really don't have any forthcoming directions I put the radio back on regular radio or CD. When I know I am close to needing directions, I put it back on AUX to hear the good ole Nuvi. All is great until I have to fill up the fuel tank with $4.80/gal diesel fuel!!

c550 for $200

Hey I ordered my C550 @ walmart for $198.86 & free ship to store. I paid for 1 day shipping instead. The total (including tax) was $ 227.72. Also Circuit City has them for $229 plus tax. Good luck.

Nuvi Vs Streetpilot

This lack is external Volume Control is a big drawback on otherwise a sleek and very good Nuvi device. I seriously like the colume controls on Streepilot series betetr as they are very handy when you are driving and need to adjust volume.
