POI Loader for Windows not seeing device???

Hi! Can anyone help? I have a Garmin 660, downloaded the POI Loader for Windows and the software does not see my device even though the Nuvi 660 does show up in My Computer. Error message says I may need to re-set the user interface to "Garmin" or "Host". I can't see how to do this. What to do?

I've reinstalled the software and re-booted with no luck. (fyi: no problems w/the Garmin WebUPdater software seeing my device).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Wish Garmin phone support was avail. on the weekends.

Does not see device

I took this from poiloader help.Did you try the below instructions?

Make sure the appropriate device appears in the Device field. If not, click Find Device. If you have multiple devices connected to your computer, select the device you want from the drop-down list.

Does not see device

Unfortunatley that's not it. After clicking Find Device, nothing appears in the drop-down box to select. Do I need to have an SD card? I do not have one and thought I could load directly to the GPS.

It should see the device..

Do you have the latest poi loader? Is the device visible on your computer as a hard drive?

And yes you should be able to

Load it directly to your device.

Another thought check in the device manager of your computer,
Right click on my computer,
then select
properties
hardware tab
Device manager
The device should be listed under drives. Does it appear to be working properly there?

Even with a card you have to run poi loader unless you convert the file then put file on the card.It should show your unit and I would try to get that stright first.Maybe I shouldn't ask this but you do have the usb cable hooked from the computer to the gps and the gps unit is turned on right?

it's a mystery

yes, just downloaded the POI Loader today from Garmin, plus did a reinstall in case I got a bad download and yes, I see the GPS as a hard drive on my laptop. It's the POA Loader software for some reason that is not communicating with and seeing the device. I'm stumped.

poiloader

Do you have a card reader? You can put a sd card in it and run poiloader.Use the pull down window and select the card and download the pois to it.It would be interesting to see if the card readers shows.Do you have another usb cable you could try so you could elimate the cable as a problem or another computer you could try it on.Again do you have the gps turned on when you look for the device?

A work around might be to

Make a folder titled Poi on your computer, then use save: custom folder and save the poi to there.

Then load the poi folder to your garmin folder on your device..

I think that will work until you get the other issue figured out..

sr171, Disconnect all other

sr171,

Disconnect all other USB devices and try different USB ports for the Garmin. Is your Windows up to date? Try a different PC if possible to make sure it is not the Garmin, its cable, or the software. I would try to use the process of elimination.

That is a thought

Are you using the cable that came with the device?

In the past I have had problems with communicating with a usb device using different cables, if you are using the garmin cable and have a different one try it...
