POI Sound Alert

Hi all, I recently installed a POI set for I-95 speed traps from this site. I also downloaded the mp3 file to go along with it. I used Garmin's utility to load the poi, and I put the MP3 in the same folder as the poi's to be uploaded, named it appropriately, used the utility correctly, but I have no sound when I have an alert.

This may sound dumb, but do I have to upload the MP3 to a folder on the Nuvi, and if I do, does it have to be a specific one?

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Using the Poi-Loader you

Using the Poi-Loader you must set it to manual installation. Then you can select how far from the trap to alert you.

I did it that way, but have no sound. Do I have to put the mp3 on the Nuvi itself? I was under the impression I did not.

Don't Put mp3 On Nuvi

No, you don't directly load or copy the mp3 file to the nuvi.

On your PC, both the POI file and the sound file must be in the same folder before you run POI Loader in manual mode. Something like this:

POI Files (folder)
>>>speedtraps.csv
>>>speedtraps.mp3

Then, is the sound turned up enough on the Nuvi? Can you hear the turn-by-turn directions OK?

I just loaded this month's UK Speed & Redlight camera database. 28000+ alerts, with a variety of speeds, distances and .mp3 files - all done using automatic mode wink

Using .csv files, you have control over speed and alert distances, using a variety of filename keywords and additions to POI names.
Using .gpx files gives more control though.

Gary, that is exactly what I did. I can hear everything else fine, just not the alert. Weird.

It's something you could do as a test - just to prove that the Nüvi can actually play that particular .mp3 file.

Phil is suggesting placing the mp3 on the Nuvi and then playing it via the mp3 player, not as an alert.

What are the filename keywords for adding the speed and alert distance?

POI alerts

Hi all,
when I click on a POI sound file ,it plays using Quicktime instead of loading on to my hard drive.
What causes this to happen.
Thanks

It is designed that way to let you hear what you are downloading. Try right-clicking on the file.

Nuvi

I have a Nuvi 785t. My problem in not with my GPS, it`s with my computer when downloading alert sounds.
When I click on a sound left or right it will open up and play ,not load onto my HD.

When you downloaded the mp3

When you downloaded the mp3 file did you do it this way?

Click on the title and when you see attachment just right click on it and pick save target as. Save it in the correct subfolder you want the mp3 for. After you download it as above just click on it and Windows Media player will open and you can hear the alert message.

What browser?

It's hard to offer support when you don't even say what browser you are using. Please post that information, both name and version. It also may help to know any download related plug-ins you have installed.

Even better, I suggest that you install a current version of Firefox. It's a very nice browser and the right click technique certainly works for me and other users. That should get you working without the need to wait for further responses to your posts.

Mouse?

Before doing anything else, please do a right-button and left-button click on file in Windows Explorer or My Computer; does the computer respond differently? Let's rule out the mouse before going deeper. Many mice are programmable to make a given button do whatever you want.

After all, it isn't surprising that a mouse not respond well to a "littleredcat".
