How do you really do a backup?? It isn't like windows where you select it and wait forever?
Or do you just copy the Garmin files to another folder on your computer and label as backup with a date?
What is the best procedure to do this?

Yes. If, by "Garmin files", you mean only the Garmin folder on the unit, I'd recommend dragging the entire disk over to the computer unless you have a lot of music or books.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Yes, just copy over the entire Garmin folder and do it now. I had a bear of a time with corrupt files because I chose to update first instead of backing up the Nuvi to my computer first thing.
