Garmin Basemaps

So there seem to be a number of basemaps that come in NUVI series GPSes, with Garmin Mobile XT and now the Colorado series. Has anyone tried mixing and matching basemap files? The Colorado for example has a 3D basemap, Mobile XT seems to have a world wide routeable map, and US-only version NUVIs have a small US basemap. Any idea what would happen if you for example, gave your NUVI the worldwide basemap from Garmin Mobile XT, or the Colorado? Anyone try this, or do I have to be the guinea pig?

I've had a variety of Basemaps installed (on C510, Nüvi 310 + 760).

They perform exactly the way you'd expect - altering the amount of detail available when go beyond the confines of your detailed maps.

How can I combine multiple maps???? Help

How many different map files can I load to my Nuvi 350 at the same time?
How can I combine more then 2 maps together?
I want to combine to different maps of curacao, one that has many POI isn't routable and the other has some roads, but is routable.

There's a few different file names available and each file can contain more than one map, so there's a few combinations.

In addition to GMAPPROM.IMG (ie detailed maps), there is GMAPPROM1.IMG, GMAPOEM.IMG and GMAPSUPP.IMG. (Gmapoem is slightly odd, in that 1st map within it is always selected. I notice Garmin use this as a means of distributing POIs for Volvo and Hyundai dealerships). GMAPSUPP.IMG can exist on the unit AND on an SD card.

To get multiple maps within one file, you can use Mapsource + select multiple map tiles. When you hit Transfer, they'll all be saved to GMAPSUPP.IMG (which you could then rename.)

Alternatively, there is SendMap20 from http://cgpsmapper.com that can merge multiple maps together. There are quite a few other tools floating around as well.
