updating 2008 maps

I just received the 2009 map updates. Can someone tell me if it is necessary to uninstall the 2008 before I install the 2009 or does the 2009 overwrite the old files

I just received the 2009 map updates. Can someone tell me if it is necessary to uninstall the 2008 before I install the 2009 or does the 2009 overwrite the old files
On the GPS, it automatically replaces the old map with the new map. If you have MapSource on the computer, it keeps the 2008 map so you have both and can switch back and forth very easily. Very handy for looking to see what has been changed!
