Making loaded POI's appear on map.

Hi,
I've installled a few POI's on my new Garmin Nuvi 660. I know they are installed, as they appear in my "Extras" folder inside my "Custom POI's. My question is, why don't they appear on my map? A couple are only a few miles from my home and they do not show up. Do I need to save each one as a favorite to see them on my map?
Thank you.

Add a picture (bmp file format)

You need to add a picture file of your POI in bmp file format in order for you to see your poi on map.

Making loaded POI's appear on map.

I had downloaded the rest areas POI bundle. How
do I add pictures to them and does one picture work for all areas?

Thanks
Mike

I'm not really sure about

I'm not really sure about this but it might work. Someone here with more knowledge about this might help you. I downloaded the Speed and Redlights cameras POI files with picture file (bmp format) and it works. It shows on map where the speed and redlights cameras. Go to the page where you downloaded the rest area poi files, there should be a picture and alert files there where you can download. Make sure you download those files in the same folder where your rest area poi files located. Other things to remember the picture and alert files must have the same file names with your rest area poi files don't worry about the extension file. For example if your rest area poi files name is (rest area.csv) name the picture file (rest area.bmp) your alert file (rest area.mp3). Put them all in the same folder then load them into your unit using the poi loader.

POI's on map

Once I learn how to do it, I shouldn't have a problem.

What Bong has said is

What Bong has said is correct however, in order for the alert file to work, you must load the poi files with POI Loader in manual mode and set an alert distance. Any file with redlight, speed, or a number will automatically alert.

Making loaded POI's appear on map.

How do I put the POI Loader into manual mode? I click it, it finds my GPS, and then asks what folders the POI's are in. I don't see any option to switch to manual mode.

Thanks,

Mike

I don't have my GPSr in

I don't have my GPSr in front of me so I'm going from memory, After the screen that says it found your unit, possibly on the same screen that asks if you want to delete or install POIs, to the middle right are radio buttons saying Express or Manual. If not the next screen.

I think Maryville is correct

I think Maryville is correct just click next to take you to the next screen. I used express mode. If you use express mode it gives you the default alert distance but if you use manual mode you can set up the alert distance. I would like to correct myself what I meant is icon not picture. Sorry.

How do I download the BMP file?

Does anyone know how to download the BMP file on a Mac? Thanks.

Right click the link (or

Right click the link (or image) and choose "Save As..." or "Save to Desktop" (depends on what browser you are using).

Garmin POI Loader for the Mac doesn't seem to have a Manual mode...unless I'm just crazy and don't see it lol.

**EDIT** There is a BETA version of POI LOder that I just found that will allow you to use Maual mode on the Mac. It's still in Beta, so it may not work perfectly. I just started downloading it now. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3751

Click on "icons" link

Click on "icons" link at top right corner of this page. Hopefully you'll find the appropriate icon.

Same Problem

I downloaded thr 7-11 poi with mp3 and bmp. they are in the same folder on my cpu and named the same. I save them on my card on my unit via poi loader and I cant see the bmp file. Any thoughts?

I checked to see if the 7-11

I checked to see if the 7-11 is in the file I downloaded. It is and Im not able to pull it up on my unit. I think Im doing something wrong sad

Finally

Sigh, it works now. I was downloading the POI files to my SD card that was in my unit, I didnt use a reader. It wasnt working this way. Then I tried downloading them directly to the unit and vaulah it works now. Bmps, Mp3 and custom POI's.

The thing that I dont like is that if I search Panera Bread thru the "Where to?>Spell Name" route no locations will show up. I have to go to "Where to?>My Locations>Custom POIs" and choose Panera from there to see the locations near me.
