good one:) but i am not a baddie, just want to make sure that i know i am coming up to a school zone as more kids walk to school there are typically more kids a bit outside of the zones i want to make sure that i am alerted to keep both side safe! and i can set my alerts a bit further out !
I got the school zone POI file. I added "Tourguide" to the file name so that it warns me when I get near a school even if it is not on the street since school zones have a tendency of expading on adjecent streets other than the street address of the school. i.e. school path leading to a road at the back of the school will usually have a school zone sign by the road but you would not get a warning that you are getting close unless you use tourguide functionality.
I also found that some of the schools are not correctly located. For example my kid's middle school is about 500 meters off. But overall, not a big deal, with the radius of the tourguide, I get a warning in advance of getting near a school zone and I know to watch out for kids and my speed as tickets here for speeding in school zones are pricey...

The West University Place City Council on Monday unanimously approved an ordinance to ban cell phone usage by motorists in active school zones.
The ordinance must be approved a second time at council's next meeting on April 14 to become law.
It would go into effect Aug. 1. It would carry a $200 penalty for a first offense and $500 penalty for repeat offenses.
All cell phone usage — including talking on a hand-held or hands-free device, text messaging or viewing images — would be illegal in the three-block school zone in front of West University Elementary School, 3756 University Blvd.
Santa Fe has joined West University Place in banning drivers from using cell phones while passing through school zones.
By a 3 to 2 vote, the Santa Fe City council adopted the restrictions Thursday night, said Mayor Ralph Stenzel.
The Galveston County city, pop. 10,000, wanted to protect children after having reports of accidents in school zones triggered by drivers distracted by their cell phones, Stenzel said.
Those who voted against the measure questioned how it would be enforced. Stenzel said.
Stenzel, who favored the restriction but can only vote if there's a tie, said the city does not have the manpower to patrol all the school zones. However, he said the school district will use its own police to ticket violators.
Those caught breaking the rule can be fined up to $200.
Under the new rule, motorists cannot use their cell phones while traveling through a school zone when the lights are flashing.
"If they have an emergency or something, they should pull over and stop before using their phone," Stenzel said.

It is now illegal to use a cell phone while driving in school zones in West University Place, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
The ban is in the three-block school zone radius around the city's schools during school zone hours.
