My house moved 200 yards with Update 2009

I had a POI for "My House" set for my driveway. Used it half a zillion times and it was always dead on. Did the 2009 update and my house (according to my GPS) moved around the corner onto another street. Also, had another POI "move" about 500 yards. Any one had this happen? Weird to say the least.

Only thing I can even guess is the BASE MAP has changed.

Hmm. Maybe do a clean

Hmm. Maybe do a clean wipe/install if that's allowed and can be done.

Heed to the powers that be

Well? What are you waiting for?

Heed to the powers that be and relocate your driveway to it's proper place... Anyhow, that may be easier that askig Garmin to fix that map error...

Compare to Google Earth

Is your position off on Google Earth as well? If so, it is the map. If not, it is probably something else.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Has anyone had luck using the 2009 "preview" on Garmin site?

Everytime I try to use it, I get a service unavailable error - probably too many users trying to access the new map?

Anyway, I do not want to fork over $$$$ for an update without some assurance that new freeway construction has been updated in my area of southern California.

Any positive comments on the 2009 maps?

Moved

hmmm....Certainly lends new meaning to the phrase "mobile home". Was there a recent earthquake in your area? mrgreen Jokes aside, can't say I've seen that sort of thing from the maps on my 660 and can't offer an explanation. Likely not a funny matter for you.

Positive or negative comments

It all depends on what you are expecting. If you live in a new subdivision with new roads and they now appear on the 2009 update, its a positive experience. However if you live in a subdivision that is few years old and still hasn't made it in the update, people will then say this map update sucks. If you have a newer model of the Nuvi (700 series) then you get to see the speed limits of the roads you are traveling and thats a great thing for them. So its all the user's perspective on what he is expecting that makes the comments positive or negative.

Ask in the forum for what you are looking for and maybe someone with the new update can check it out for you. Lot of awesome people participate on these forums.

According to Garmin and all

According to Garmin and all other online maps my house is about 1/4 mile from where it actually is.

i think it's navteq. My

i think it's navteq. My house in michigan now shows about 100 feet in the middle of the street as opposed to the correct location which was correct the last time i cheched it on google, that was a couple of years ago.

I went on navteq and sent a correction, hopefully it will be corrected in a year oe two smile

Thanks for the replies edthesped and joe2008

Thanks for the replies I was stating to think that I was the only person in the world with that problem. I have updated the location of my house now (according to the world of Garmin) and Jill (my GPS) is happy now. She now knows were I actually live.

That was one thing about the 750 that really attracts me to it. Any clues on how extensive they added speed limits?

Mine moved

My house was moved next door so I just resave the coord. and it seems to be right now. At least when in the garage I'm on top of the house bmp

Nuvi 750 And a 2006 Star Venture between my legs.

Mine too!!

I noticed that the GPS is off too. It was perfectly fine until I did a system update to 4.3 and 4.4. Then my house moved down the street and my current position shows I'm sitting in the middle of the road. I'm 0.1 mile away from my house which is in the wrong spot.

hmmmm.....very strange!

Something's off, that's for sure.

Whole block of Homes in Kansas City Gone?

-----------------
Where are you located? My son lives at 6309 and the last house on the street is now 6297 so appears that all the 63xx houses are non-existent. Home was built in 2003 so not talking about an area of new construction. My c330 is operating with 2005 Base Map even though I just updated to 2009 map.

Since you have c340, sounds like we are experiencing the same thing. Would someone with a NUVI 7xx send me a message? I would like to have you try my 6309 address to see if you obtain the same thing. Garmin Tech Support had same result I did but they may have been on a c330.

BTW, when I try using MapSource on my PC with 2009 map, I obtain the same missing houses. The c330 can't find 6309 so it is gone. Furthermove, NAVTEC site shows 6309 right where it should be.

NBC News Story

I remember a news story that might shed some light on this subject

On the 6pm NBC News April 1, there was a report that the earth shifted on it axis about .01855 degrees. I think this might have actually move all GPS Coordinates about 400 to 500 feet. This is probably the results that you are seeing now.

Home moved and 100 phantom homes created

Not only did my home move from the end of a cul-de-sac (correct location) to near the beginning of the road but now the highest address which should be 20 now is 100. My home co-ordinants now land me at phantom address 98.

but i do like the speed limits given on the new map which have been unfailingly correct.

Try Google Earth

Have you tried Google Earth to see what it shows? I tried entering my address on there it it shows the same thing the GPS shows, the house in the wrong location.

I wonder why the maps are all messed up? Anybody have any ideas?

I was driving today looking

I was driving today looking for homes for sale. I had a couple of addresses and i decided to enter them into the GPS. Well, what do you know? The GPS tells me that I have arrived yet the house is about 200 feet away.

This happened to two properties in Chandler Arizona and I am now somwhat disapointed to know that the new map update isn't as accurate as the previous one. Some of these issues are from Navteq. Sometime this year or last year the data in navteq got messed up and I have found that even my house in michigan is now 200 feet off, not only on the 2009 map update but on google and live.com as well.

that just tells you that these maps are being purchased from navteq and I have no idea how they warranty their information! Garmin needs to pay attention to what they are passing to their customers, it needs to be more accurate and not less accurate from the previous map update.

I just hope that going forward, the next update will be much improved!

It's Not The 2009 Maps

It's not the 2009 maps. I have 2008 on mine and only in the last few days has it been wrong. I thought maybe it was tied to the firmware upgrades I did but seeing that Google Earth shows the same thing.....

Something is off somewhere in the data being given to Garmin and Google Earth etc.

Experienced something similar

Something similar happened to me, After I updated the software (not the map) a frequently used POI was off for a few hundred meters. I haven't checked other POIs in that City, I hope it was an isolated case with that one. Will keep an eye.

Does the 2009 maps include changes to I-215 in Riverside, CA?

Good suggestion. What I am specifically interested in is Freeway construction that is still in progress (for the last four years) along I-215 in southern California. New on/off ramps have been constructed and at least one bridge overpass has been permantely removed.

Anybody noticed any changes in the 2009 maps for I-215 in Riverside, CA?

SF bay Area Seems OK

Tomorrow I will test out a few more sites to see if I have a problem and don't know it. So far though, the 2009 maps with the firmware upgrade fixed 2 errors I had from the v.2008 maps.
Interesting...

Not just you

According to my Tom Tom Navigator 6, my house has always been about 100 yards up the street as it is in Google Earth. Since it was built in 1971, I doubt its moved much.

Just made home the driveway and it accepts that.

Cheers
