newbee question (Europe & Australia maps)

Hello, this may not be the right site to ask this question but here goes.

I have a garmin c550 that I bought in Germany so it has all the maps of Europe loaded into it. I want to now use it in Australia with Australian map data loaded onto an sd card. I have tried lots of different techniques to get the thing to work but I am able to see is the outline of Australia with names for the major places.

If anyone can offer any useful advice (that does NOT suggest contacting Garmin) it will be much appreciated.

Cheers.

You'll have to install Australian Map

The map of Australia is base map. You'll have to buy Australian Map.

About the only technique that should be required, is to insert the SD card wink

Tell us about this SD card...is it a pre-loaded SD card from Garmin; or one that's been created using Mapsource. Indeed, are they Garmin's maps - or from some other source (Tracks4Australia)?

What files are on the SD card? GMAPSUPP.IMG + GMAPSUPP.UNL?

Australiam map on SD card

@john_S,

Did you buy the Australian City Navigator NT on a DVD from any retailer or Garmin? If you did buy it on a DVD, all you have to do is to install the DVD program on your computer and using Mapsource transfer the entire Australian map over to a SD card. I visited Australia in February and I went that route. I bought the City Navigator NT 2008 DVD for $159 and a separate 1 GB SD card for $10 and this method worked great for me on my Nuvi 350.
