Stupid 2009 Update Question

I have a simple question about the 2009 map update but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. It seems to me that the update does not remove the older map but rather adds a newer map also. But on my nuvi 680 I can't load the entire 2009 map because I don't have enough room. Is this correct? Why isn't the older map simply replaced by the newer map to conserve space? Or am I doing something wrong (very possibly)? Thanks for any help...

should replace

The 2009 map should replace the old map. Did you install it ? Or just copy it to the nuvi?

Not true

That was not true on my installation. It removed the 2008 maps and added the 2009 maps.
I just ran setup from the disc and let it do it's thing. I noticed I could have also uploaded just some of the maps if I wanted, but I had it install everything.

.

If you are getting the message that you don't have enough space, you can most likely get rid of the message by removing unneeded voice, text, and vehicle files from the unit (AFTER BACKING THEM UP TO YOUR COMPUTER) before attempting the update. You might want to temporarily remove your Custom POI file as well before you do do the update.

Well I guess something

Well I guess something screwy happened when I did the install because when I look under Map Info I have I have both City Navigator North America NT 2009 and City Navigator North America NT 2008 listed. Is there a simple way to just delete the 2008 map?

I got the same message when

I got the same message when I downloaded the 2009 update..telling me there was not enough room to continue the download and asked me if I would like to remove completely or copy to my computer harddrive, my jpg and mp3 files, I answered that I preferred to have them copied and place on my computer harddrive..then it placed the files on my computer and continued the download. Apparently, there is not much excess room after the maps, so I will now put everything on the 4gb storage card. I don't know what they are going to do in a few more years when more updates are made...I supppose we will have to dump everything from the GPSR memory to a storage drive.

Old map removal

I had the same question last year. I called Garmin and got the procedure.

Connect your GPS, go into windows' "Add or Remove Programs" inthe Control Panel. And choose the map you want to remove.

Used the Mac version and

Used the Mac version and just let the system do it thing, now only have 2009. Last time I updated, did it manually via Win XP and ended up with two version on the unit. The 2009 update actually cleared out both of the old versions.

The NT2008 on my Nuvi 350 was replaced by NT2009
