Problems updating with the new maps (update fails at 15-20%)

Last night, I downloaded the new map info and it went through fine (though my computer is a bit slow, so it took 6 hours).
I tried to update three times today and about 15-20% through the update itself, I get an error stating that the map update has failed.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? I have lots of hard drive space and am running Windows Vista. The computer and hard drive are set to stay on forever right now (in case the download takes a while).
Thanks for your guesses.
Corrupt?
Thanks for your guesses.
My guess is that your downloaded file is corrupted. Since you say that the computer and hard drive are set to stay on forever right now, does that mean they were not set that way when you did the download? My experience with 6 hr downloads is that they often fail to give a perfect file.
Does Garmin allow you to download it again? Do you already have Mapsource? Either way, it might be easier to ask for a DVD that solves the download problem AND gets you Mapsource.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Download time
you have 14 days from 1st download to be able to download again.
As stated in the Email Order Confirmation:
"You have 90
days to download this map update from your myGarmin account. A link to the map
update will expire 14 days after you first download."

Downloading From Garmin
I spoke with Linda at Garmin yesterday, and she said that "there are so many people trying to download the new map, that it is jamming the server, and making all downloads impossible or slow".
Suggestion: set a wake-up call for 3am... might obtain better results.

?Downloading time
I started downloading this morning at 6:30am EDT. I used Comcast broadband. It took 44 minutes to complete the download.
It then took 54 minutes to extract, update MapSource and upgrade my Nuvi750.
I don't think that was bad at all.

GWR50--This must have been the problem...maybe
On the fourth attempt, about an hour ago, it all went through and the nuvi is now working again.
Thanks for all the guesses.
This why I got a disk
So I hope to have no problems at all.

My sentiments exactly. I'm glad that I went ahead and did the pre-order for the map update and received the disk. The whole update process took about 90 minutes and went off without a hitch

Download and Free Space for 2009 update on a Mac
The .dmg download is 2.16Gb and takes a while (and I was getting about 500Kb/sec so that's well over an hour).
I first downloaded and ran the install last night. However, I discovered that there were no POI and no street-level data! I'm not sure exactly how much free space is needed to do all the map conversions, but I'd recommend having at least 2Gb free after the .dmg is mounted and the updater is running.
It's almost done (again) so I'll see how it went.

Check where you said to save it on your PC
PC. If it reads approx. 2,139,324 kb then the Map file should be on the computer. Just double click it and go from there!!!

Yes I did double click the exe file the first time. I just tried it again and I waited a little bit more after it hit 100% and it provided me with the finishing screen.
