Bean Bag Mount and Slippage

Bean Bag Mount and Slippage

I have found that using "Removable Glue Dots" on the bottom of the Bean Bag Mount helps the bag with more traction. This helped my bag from slipping when I had to make a sharp turn in a hurry. My Garmin bag has flown of the dash 3 or 4 times in the past.

It doesn't glue the bag to the dash but just gives it more traction. I used 6 dots on the bottom of the bag.
They don't leave any marks on the dash

They don't cost very much, $1.98 for a bag of 60.

The "Removable Glue Dots" I got at a Office Depot (also available Walgreens) is the same substance used by credit card companies to attach the New Credit Cards to the paper page when they ship them to you.

Hope this small trick helps some of you with similar problems.

Excellent.......

That sounds like an excellent idea. I've wondered in the past where one would purchase that type of adhesive. It's pretty darn sticky and strong yet it cleans off remarkably easily.

I'm buying a hand held GPS for someone as a birthday present and, although it will be primarily for geocaching, it also does routing. The bean bag mount is so much easier to use than a suction mount and is more portable. I think I'll suggest that mount along with your adhesive suggestion.

Another anti-slippage technique

Good to know, HH.

I also read recently that if slipping becomes an issue, a good cleaning of the bottom friction area with warm soapy water and brush does wonders. I haven't tried it yet.

I doubt that either fix will work when I'm traveling some rough Forest Service roads to get to a hiking trailhead. My solution to really bad roads, at least when I have no one else in the front passenger seat, is to place the bean bag and GPS on the seat next to me. A nuvi 750 still has a good enough view of the satellites to know where I am.

Mine stays put

I have the bean bag mount and it stays where I put it. My Jeep has a flat top dash which helps. I could see where it would be a problem if your dash sloped at to much of an angle. Anyway, I'm happy with mine. My windshield sits to far forward to comfortably use the sucker cup mount is why I went with the bean bag.

Dash

I use a sticky cloth for the dash and place the beanbag on top of that.

So basically, what I'm hearing is that this mounting solution doesn't work either.

Bean Bag

I just traveled over 6000 miles with the Garmin bean bag mount for my Nuvi 750. My Ford van chassis dash even curves a bit where I place the bean bag and it only moved a small amount (perhaps slid down the slope about 1/2 inch) only when I encountered extremely rough roads. This occurred infrequently and just meant that, being ultra picky about the Nuvi's location, I would gently tug it back into place. Never ever came close to falling off the dash. The bean bag allowed me to position the Nuvi exactly where I wanted it as well as easily hide the mount when we were out of the vehicle. Not to mention the easy transport from one vehicle to another. The bean bag way exceeded my expectations in term of performance and it looks just fine too. If with time and wear, I find the bag wants to move a bit more, I will try some of the remedies mentioned here.

You beat me to it, but I also have a Jeep, and never have had problems with slippage. MOst rental cars I've driven have sloped dashboards, but yet I haven't experience too much slippage, either.

No slippage

I've been using a NavMat friction mount in my 2007 Honda Civic placed on the first tier of the dash behind the steering wheel and to the right of the fuel gauge. Even though it doesn't completely sit on the surface (because of its size) of the dash my NavMat and nuvi 660 have not slid off or come close to sliding off when I'm driving. I've not had to clean any surfaces to get it to stay put.

Bean Bag

I have the one that you can bend the ends alittle I put in on the top of the instrument cluster housing on my 94 Yukon and it stays there never moved one inch. I also use it in my 01 jeep wrangler and it stays. My son has one fro his 660 also and it never moves in any of his vehicles and he lives on a gravel road about 3 miles from the main road.

Good Information

This is good to know. I have thought about buying a "bean bag" for my nuvi 350, but wasn't sure how effective it would be., Sounds like it would be a good deal

I have seen the future and it is now!

Mine doesn't slide

I have the bean bag mount bought from Best Buy. Use it all the time on my Tahoe dash...smooth roads, rough roads, curves..no matter what it never moves. Very impressed with it. I guess it depends on the type of dash you have but I love my bean bag mount.
It is nice to know other options if it ever does start slipping.

My Navmat does a great job

My Navmat does a great job as well.

Been using the Garmin

Been using the Garmin Friction mount for 4 months now with no issues at all. It has never even show the tiniest bit of slippage on the dash of my 2003 Honda Accord coupe.

We picked up a box of the 1/2" dots from Michaels. $3.99 and with a 40% off coupon and tax, $2.52 for 200 dots.

Bean bag

My jeep liberty has a very small and sloped dash. I also use the bean bag mount, but due to the size and weight of my 7200, it would not stay in place. My solution was to use the bean bag mount and hold this in place with a small bungee cord connected to my dash defroster vents. Very easy to disconnect the bungee and remove the entire unit.

bean bag

I love my bean bag with my 660.

I got it from Amazon for 1/2 the price of Circuit City or Best buy.

Very cool tip, hope to not

Very cool tip, hope to not need it (having great luck with the mount), but thanks!!

I have been very happy with the bean bag mount I got from Amazon.
