When you get mapsource DVD from Garmin, the software requires a code so it will work. When you register your GPS, a data page is created on the Garmin site that contains the unlock code. Garmin tries to bury the link to the unlock code, so dig around the site to find it.
If you purchase a DVD with maps from Garmin BE CAREFUL when you open the package. The unlock code is generally on a piece of paper BETWEEN the layers in the plastic packaging. There's a front insert and a back insert and sandwiched between them is the unlock code. You don't want to lose it........
