poi loads on garmin 660, but does not display

Hello everyone,
I have a Garmin 660; I was able to download POI, icon, and sound alert for redlight cameras. I have downloaded another POI, BankofAmerica; it downloads OK, I can see them listed under custom POIs, but I cannot get them to display. I have downloaded the BofA .bmp icon, and the names are identical (except for the file type)...any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

Have you check the zoom in and out to see if that helps. Also run a simulate trip and see if they show.

Steve, what do you see when you choose an individual BofA location from the list and click on the Map button? It should show you either the default grey dot or your custom icon. If you get the dot, you have either different spellings of the names (POI file and bmp file), or you have not placed them in the same folder. Hopefully, you will see your custom icon.

Since I have made most of the B of A POI's, I went and checked my 680. I have loaded all B of A's along with the bmp and they show up if you choose an individual location and click on the Map button. I am assuming your from Texas and I haven't done that state yet (however, someone else did the greater DFW area - not me), and I haven't tried that one since I am currently working on the entire state of Texas.

Same thing, different POIs

I still have not found a view on my 750 to display all the POIs in an area. No matter what zoom level, view detail level, top down, 3d, north up or any other combo I can try and locate. I cannot get POIs to display. Only favorites display for me on the map.

I can locate the added in POIs via a search, so they are there, but cannot display them in realtime.

I have determined that the BofA locations do not display like my Redlight locations. With the Redlight, I have an icon and sound along with the location. It works great. I was assuming the Bof A POIs displayed the same way. I go to the Favorites, Custom POI, and then Bof A, specific location, and get directions to the location, although the icon still does not appear. BTW, I checked the names for the .bmp, and the .csv, and they are identical. thanks for all the help, guys. Steve

If they are really

If they are really identical, they should work. Sometimes what I do is copy and paste the name to make sure.

Don't Route to the POI

Instead of getting directions to the POI (presumably by hitting Go, I wanted you to immediately view the POI by hitting the button called Map or View Map. Then tell us what the icon is -- grey dot or custom bmp.

Don't Route to the POI

Hi Bentbiker,
I used your method of using map, and I do get a BofA icon. I was just curious to see if I could get the BofA POIs to display as I went by them, like the redlight camera icons. Regards, Steve

Pretty "standard" for many units

This is pretty standard for many units. Many will not show POI icons until you are zoomed in to 200 ft or closer. My Nuvi 350 will not show POI icons at all in 3D map mode unless I am either routing to that POI or if the POI has an alert set on it. They do show as expected in "view map" mode as you discovered. They will also display if I am in North up or Track Up mode and soomed in close enough (I think).

I think the mentality is that a lot of POIs could make for a very cluttered screen so they are hidden unless you are just browsing the map. Just a guess, though.

But you can see that there are a bunch of variables that affect how POI's appear. And those variables are not 100% consistent between units. But there seems to be a pretty fair consistency of "don't use 3D mode" and "zoom in to 200 ft or closer". Give those a try.

Hi John, You're

Hi John,
You're absolutely right; the clutter on the screen would be a real nuisance. I was trying to explore the capabilities of my 660 for future reference. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Steve
