So I just visited the public MapSource Map Viewer at
http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/citynavnt.jsp#
and zoomed in to my neighborhood. My name is listed at the location of my home. So I figure it has something to do with cookies, java cookies, or the Garmin software that I have on my PC.
So I bring up a near virgin XP install on my MacBook via VMware Fusion and I can still see my name on the online MapSource Map.
I am a registered Garmin user, but just don't know what to think of this.
I believe this is a Navteq
I believe this is a Navteq issue.
). I have not talked to him specifically about this, but I suspect somewhere in the past he used his home address as an address associated with his business.
Do you run a business from your home or have you in the past? If so, was that business registered to you? My neighbor owns a trucking business and his name is displayed just as you describe and, in fact, also shows on my Garmin 760 if I zoom in far enough. He does not run the business from his home, he has a different location for that. This does seem to behave as though it is a built in POI. However, I have not been able to locate it via any of the categories that are available in the POI search. If I search for the name that is displayed, his name is returned. (Interestingly, it is not the name of his business.) So, it seems to reside in the POI database, but has no category associated with it. One way to get 6 million POI's, I guess (sarcasm
Yes I do have a business I
Yes I do have a business that I run out of my home with a county business license for that address. Strange thing, it's not on the 2008 City Navigator that's on my c550, but it on the Garmin web version.
Could other POI Factory members that are also registered "My Garmin" users check to see if their names are listed on the web version of MapSource Viewer?
Mine is not
I'm a registered user and nothing on my address

I am registered with Garmin, and no label or listing of my name or address appears on the web version of MapSource Viewer.
Must be my business. Thanks
Must be my business. Thanks to all that helped to verify this.
Not a personal address
I dont think it has a personal address, Looking at mapsource and the garmin site, the only thing i see for poi may be a listed address for a business that is registered with the city. NOT garmin or am i missing something here.

My son
has business license in Coral Springs, FL. A search on the name of the business shows the location. He did nothing to have this placed by NavTeq.

Just remember in the Internet age you have no privacy; be prepared for everything about you to be available to those who know how to retrieve it to be on line and for sale.

Privacy?
How would that be a privacy concern? when your name and address are on the phone book (paper and web)? assuming it is listed, of course.

Issue solved. My name is
Issue solved.
My name is even on the 2008 maps on my c550. I just did a search with no name entry on the POI list and there I was. It has my business cell phone number for the contact information. My business name is my given name with LLC on the end. The c550 does not display the LLC. I am not associated with any categories from what I can tell.
Business registry = public
I dont think it has a personal address, Looking at mapsource and the garmin site, the only thing i see for poi may be a listed address for a business that is registered with the city. NOT garmin or am i missing something here.
I show a couple of internal POI's in homes in my residential neighborhood. These are because they are home-based businesses or because the owner used his personal address when he registered for his business license. Registered businesses are public information. But it is funny to be driving by a block of 3 bedroom ranch homes and see a "Kathy's Diner" POI show up for one of the homes. Maybe I'll stop in for a cup of coffee some day....
