I'm thinking about getting the NAVIGON 7100 and I currently have the Magellan 4250. I like the life time traffic, if it gives good inforamtion. Please give me your input on this unit.... Thanks
To each his own....
I was just at Costco the other day and a man was returning a Navigon 7100. He did not like it at all. Said he was going to get a Garmin. I have the Nuvi 750 but if you want traffic you could look at a 760. I think a GPS is kind of a personal thing that one mfg does not always mean it is the liking of everyone.
I personally prefer Garmin after extensive looking at reviews and in the store...

Check out this review
Found a review that seems quite objective at:
http://www.gpsreview.net/navigon-7100/
Like it says, the features are hard to beat, but the reviewer had reservations on the interface and the screen under direct sunlight.
My advice would be to check out the return policy of the store you plan to acquire it from, and see if it would allow you to test it out for a few days.

Yup, gonna try one
I had to try it for $250... Just got delivered this evening... The interface is different then garmin but was not hard to figure out without the manual... It seems browser like with the back button, but after you figure that out you can get where you want... Since I only plan to use it for road travel with the "fresh map" option and free traffic it should work for me.
I use my gpsmap 60c for all my custom on road and off road route and POI activities.
I have garmin etrex, gpsmap60c, streepilot c530..
Navigon 7100
Hello, recently borrowed my friends 7100. Took rode trip to Mystic, CT- Basically a simple drive I-95 North to Exit 90.
First, Screen display- was full of info. The data displayed are very small font size about 8 . Hard to read or see If you have vision problems.
2nd- Nice that it displays the actual exit signs- nice touch. However, the con- It displays the exit signs until you pass them. When it activates the GPS dows not show you vehicle on the screen at all. Meaning, you dont see your vehicle moving towards the Exit signs. Like it does on other GPS brands that do not have that feature.
3rd- Could of been my mistake.- I had the Traffic Info on- and the unit never alerted me of the traffic ahead. I saw a sign on the road that stated traffic at exits 46 when I was on exit 42.
Checked option for traffic and unit stated, no traffic alerts.
Basically, did not like the 7100- Not as detail as the Nuvi 350. I guess I am use to see my actual progress when exiting on or off roads.

First navigon 7100 trip
Got to take my first Navigon 7100 trip with the original version firmware I assume is 1.0 since 1.1 is out and 1.2 is coming May 14. It was a 150 mile trip down mostly highways, then back road (gravel) the last 40 miles. I did use the included FM antenna for the traffic and it actually worked better than expected. It did warn of a pending accident on 270 south (st.louis) 5 miles. It also showed the speed limit changes on 44 west (60 to 65). I had my trusty GPSMAP 60, just incase..
but they both chose the same route. It shows the trip progress on the right and the next turn on the left and up coming exits at the top. The ETA was also very close and stayed close to the GPSmap 60C. Not bad for $250... so far..
a friend of mine has it and
a friend of mine has it and at first, the graphics ard nice, nice set of features and with the proce of $250 you can't beat it but even my friend didn't like the fact that the user interface is awckward and you need a stylist at times to navigate. I went and tried myself in the store and didn't like the interface, it's not straightforward.
I suggest getting it, try it for a week if you don't like it then return it back.
the nice thing about the navigon is that they give you I think free map updates for life, once a year or so.
but the reviews out there complain of sluggish performance and user responsiveness.

Garmin 7100, 7200 7500

johnch1 yes it is the 7100 and 7200 came out at over 1100.00. So 500.00 and as I just sow 200.00-300.00 that is very good. BUT I am an OTR driver I drive Buses and Limos all over the south west. There are a few things about the 7100 and 7200 you and every one should know. Garmin is about to stop making the 7100, 7200 and 7500 and this is why. The 7100, 7200 and 7500 where made for the OTR but was made with out a battery back up. So if you lost power to your plug for what ever reason you are SOL. And OTR drivers were having a lot of prob's down loading set routs to the unit plus it is not good with sun light. So as a OTR driver it is not a good unit. I use a Streetpilot c550 a 600.00 unit and can be found on the net in the 300.00 range. Or the Nuvi 700's or 800's or the 5000. Sorry to be long winded but you did ask.

Southern CA Temp 76 and Sunny. Running around with my Nuvi 465T. Getting lost around the country and loving it.
Try it you'll like it!
Rather than listen to the people slam the units that haven't even tried one, Get one for yourself, Dollar for dollar it is very feature rich. And you will own a GPSr that also manufactures maps for most other GPSr's like most on this forum (navteq). Thats why the will give three years worth of quarterly maps, instead of one yearly for the same price. My Company is making the map money from the other GRPr company's and taking real good care of Navigon users.
Plus Free Traffic and all the other benefits and features, hey if you don't like it take it back, But don't listen to people that haven't even seen one or have a friend of a friend that has one. Get one and make your own educated decision and save a lot of money for a great GPSr.
