SD card for custom POI's

I knolw this is a dumb question but I need clarification. Can I put all my custom POI's on an SD card and then put it in the NUVI and will the NUVI look at the card for POI's? In other words, can I search the SD card when the NUVI is running for the custom POI's?

.

You can load your Custom POIs to your SD card and your nuvi will read them from there.

Bear in mind that you must LOAD them with POI Loader. Simply copying the Custom POI files to the card will not result in them being read as Custom POIs on your nuvi.

Transfer

For what it's worth -- on some Nuvi models, I believe you can transfer directly from the SD card to the internal memory of the GPS unit.

Thanks for the tip about using the POI Loader. Now I can share my POI's with friends just by giving them my SD card from my garmin.

Transfer from card

My 680 did not do that. I am obviously doing something wrong as the 680 will not recognize the data on the card. I used POI Loader to install the data file on the card, inserted the card in the 680, started it up but it does not see the Custom POIs. I created a folder on the card called Custom POIs.

.

The file on the card that contains your Custom POIs is named POI.GPI. Look for that file.

I don't know if the folder name matters, but create a folder named GARMIN in the root of the card, then create folder named POI and put the POI.GPI file in that folder.

Also, to ensure that the card is functioning correctly with your unit, put a picture file (JPG) or an MP3 file on the card and see if the unit can read them. (Note I wasn't sure if the 680 has an MP3 player.)

Did you really use POILoader?

I wonder if he actually loaded with the POILoader. The reason i ask, is because I did it by accident the other day and it created a folder called "Garmin" and put the poi.gpi file inside of it.
