Do you have to use the poi loader to upload from the computer to the nuvi or can you just copy files?

..poi files copy fine on my 7xx
I copy the poi.gpi files into the proper folder location on the unit, as I have a few to update....or alternately, put the poi files on an SD card and let the unit copy them upon insertion of the SD card.
I manage the favorites with Mapsource. The 7xx series is not manageable via file copy. ..otherwise strange results occur on the 7xx.
