Thanks for Atlanta cams

Thanks to whomever collected/created the cam files for Atlanta. I went through there and had my unit alert twice, about scared the snot out of me both times as I wasn't ready for the noise my Mio made alerting me.

Anyway, I hit two on the north side of Atlanta so know that it works. Thanks for the good job!

I second the thanks

I recently moved to Atlanta from Maine. In Maine running a red light is a part of driving. It is nice to have the warning prior to running the light.

Cheers!

Other Atlanta Cams

I have downloaded a listing of Red Light Camera in Atlanta from another source and of course get alerts at the intersection. However, there are times when No Camera are visible anywhere. Had this happen twice. ????

there are future cameras in the file and I think that I just added new locations for Atlanta that have not been installed yet.

Miss Poi

Those are the new "stealth" cams. They only activate when you're not looking directly at them!!!!

I just got a used Garmin

I just got a used Garmin today and found your site when reading about software updates.
I live in Roswell, work in Marietta, and travel into Atlanta a lot.
I have watched them install a lot of these cameras, some I have seen go in this week.

I would like to be able to help update the intersections where I am seeing cameras going in, but how do I find out if they are already in the database? Can POIs be read in a text reader? Of course, I am not yet eligible to download the one from here yet, but I am going to try to learn how to make my own POIs and add my own for now.

POI's are either .csv or .gpx

Most POI's are in a .csv (comma separated values) format. This can be read in any text editoror excel. The normal format is: longitude, latitude, name, description. If you are looking to check locations of the red light files, you can open it in POI EDIT where you can plot each one on a map. I believe you can also use Mapsource.

Another approach is to load the file in your GPS and then you will see the 50 closest to your location.

Thanks

I did find a CSV some of them on a local Atlanta website, but there are a few missing from what I noticed driving to work today. It caught all of them except one. I will add it myself later.
I noticed I had to change the default distance, otherwise it warns me WAAAY too soon, and some of the lights are so close together that it is warning me of a RLC prior to reaching the light in front of that one. I put in 600 feet. What distance do other people like?
There are a few speed traps along my route too and I was told I can do the same thing with those, except I don't have to name the file 'redlight' and have to put the correct speed in as "@35" for 35mph. Is that correct?

For speed alert, you have

For speed alert, you have several options.

1. In the line of the POI location itself, use the @ command. For example, 38.1234,-79.1234,Main_St@35.
This will give a 35mph (or kph) alert.

2. Name the file itself with the desired speed in the file name. For example, 35mph_Speed_Alerts.csv. This will give a 35mph alert for ALL the locations in the file.

3. Don't do either and set the speed while running POI Loader in Manual mode.

Atlanta Red Light Camers

Where is the Atlanta Cams download file located? Does contributing info count as making me an active user? I've sent 3 locations for metro atlanta... Thx.

Brad,

Check out the faq area under active members and how to get the file for free. You have to be actively involved for 3 of the last 5 weeks.
