New MD Speed Camera Law

The local news in the DC-Baltimore area has reported that the MD legislature is about to approve legislation that will dramatically increase the number of speed cameras throughout the State of Maryland. High priority areas are school zones and residential neighborhoods. It is unclear thus far when the new cameras would be installed.

We will update the list

And, as usual, all those in MD that visit this site will undoubtedly update information as soon as we get it.

I know I will go out and get exact coordinates for locations that I learn about.

Miss POI, let me know of any you hear of in Southern MD (Charles, PG, St Mary's and Calvert Counties) and I will visit the sites.

New Maryland Cameras - Montgomery County

They just installed two new cameras (North & Southbound) about a mile from my home. Although they haven't "activated" them yet. I will drive by there today and get the coordinates. They're across from Olney Elementary School... about a half block from a police substation. Coordinates will be posted before the end of the day.

Permanent or mobile cameras?

Are these permanent, affixed speed cameras in Olney? I thought MoCo was only using the minivans that rotate throughout various speed zones in the county, but I could be mistaken.

Not moving

You could be mistaken. grin These are permanently attached to poles... not going anywhere. They just installed them last week, but aren't supposed to be activated until April 1st (how appropriate).

These are not the only permanent cameras in MoCo. Also have them on Montgomery Village Avenue, and on Briggs Chaney Road... just off of New Hampshire Avenue. I don't know about any other locations... just the ones I've passed. I'm willing to bet there are more than just those 3 I've seen. Oh, and all three locations snag you going in both directions.

I didn't have the chance to post the sites yesterday as promised. However, I did capture the lat/long today on my way to work, so will upload them as soon as I get home tonight.

I live in Germantown, and I think there are only two places with speed cameras, both of which you mentioned: Richter Farm Rd and Wisteria Dr. Hardly what I would call being "all over" Germantown!

Bonifant rd in Silver Spring

There is a speed cam van on bonifant rd.
It was there last week and it was there today.

he was flagged over.. ok.

he was flagged over.. ok. not a specific camera but still.. its someone that wants to give you a ticket.

just about a week ago, i parked at the corner of germantown road 118 and clopper road (7-11).. i sat outside to eat my icecream and watched a cop wait by the flashing lights (this was about 2am).. trying to pull over california rollers.

there was another one that would drive around and pulled over anyone that probably looked suspicious to him. it was laughable but at the same time, i knew i could be one to be pulled over by those just because i'm young.

Lafayette, Louisiana

We have these crazy speed vans now. They park a van on the side of the street and POP! They have you. These vans are all over the place and you never know where they are going to be next.

UGH!

2) veirs mill rd near intersection with Univ. boulevard.
3) Old gun powder rd.
