need help on custom POI alert!

Hi all,

After downloading the MP3 file and POI file and rename the same name for both file (.mp3 and .csv file) and put on the same folder in my computer, then I use the POI loader to load .mp3 and .csv file in my garmin650 and finishing without any errors. I tried to do the same thing couple times but I got no luck at all. Every time I try to approach to the point that I have in my custom POI but my Garminh 650 does not alert at all.

Could someone please got any ideas what should I need to do to get an alert when approch the location that I have in my custom POI? I would very appreciate for the help?

Thanks

You asked this on another thread and Charlie answered. You must set an alert via manual loading with POI Loader, or the file must be built in such a way as to set an alert. You can't just put the mp3 file in place. See Mama's instrctions:

Edit: Just read the instructions from start to finish and you may well have already followed them. I see there is no mention of the need to SET an alert via any of the techniques. Look at:

ALERTS

Hello All,

I don't think Alerts work with a CVS POI file unless you have placed one of the following words in the File Name or Individual POI itself:
"GATSO," "mobile," "SPECS," "safety," "speed," or "camera,". Also there is no way that I know where you can attach a MP3 file to a CVS POI.
The only way I know how to attach an MP3 file is to make the File a TourGuide GPX file and set the proximty. Then you can attach a MP3 file.
This is how I get my school zones to fire an alert using a MP3 Vioce recording.

Using MapSource makes this so simple.

Thanks for trying to help, H Hannah, however, it is definitely possible to set alerts with CSV files.

There are a number of ways to to it.

In the POI name itself in the CSV, you can at @25 to the individual POI names inside the CSV (or some other number representing the speed at which you wan to be alerted). For example,

-81.12345,45.98765,"Police Station@35"
-81.12332,45.98622,"Middle School@20"

Check this out for more information about the CSV file format.

Also, you can run POI Loader in Manual Mode and set alerts on any POIs.

You can also associate an MP3 for a Custom Alert with CSV or GPX files. Just follow these instructions.

Loading MP3s as Custom Sounds

Be aware that Garmin alerts function as an "along the road/route" alert and not as a radius alert. And that alerts will only sound if you on the road on which the POI is located, traveling in the direction of the POI, and if the POI is located sufficiently close to the road (typically 50 feet).

Thank you all very much for your help.

Best regards,

Garmin 650 alert behavior

Using the example:
-81.12345,45.98765,"Police Station@35"
As you approach the defined location you should get a single alert within the default distance (about 1/4 mi.) or whatever you manually defined. If your speed is under 35 you will not get additional alerts. If over 35, the alerts continue until past the location.......... or this is how my 650 behaves.
