Help with icon display

I need someone with a Tom-Tom, Magellan or anything other than Garmin to test a file for me. The files are located here: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/10677

The files have an embedded icon which should display at the destination location. These are different motel logos. My nuvi 660 displays the icon but the checkered flag overwhelms it on the display. Garmin says they cannot, or will not, remove the checkered flag. I need to know if this is specific to Garmin. If someone could download one of the files and test it, I would appreciate it.

If I select a poi file and specific destination, map it, the icon shows up ok. It presents a problem when I actually travel the route.
Any help would be appreciated.

The checkered flag should only display on the screen when you have selected a location to route to. Otherwise, in order to see the icons on the map screen you need to zoom in. They won't show until you are zoomed in fairly closely.

Thats what I found out when

Thats what I found out when I ran the file. I am wondering if other brands, i.e Magellan, use a flag or what for their default destination icon. If not, maybe the icon would show on those units.

I generally think of custom icons being important only to help me quickly recognize a spot on the screen. If I've already chosen it as a destination, I hardly need a custom icon to remind me -- I know what that checkered flag represents.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand what the issue is. If you've selected a location and are navigating to it, surely you know what the location is without needing to see an icon of the business' logo. What am I missing?

All the information for

All the information for these locations, about 15,000 of them in the U.S., is coming from the owner of petswelcome.com. He would like his customers, hotels,B&Bs,etc, logo(icon)to display at the location. I don't believe this will be possible, at least on garmin units. The flag dominates the location.

Domination

It only dominates when it's been chosen as the destination, not before... at least, not on my Zumo. Agree with the others (not from Lost)... once you have selected the location, you already know where you're going... right? Isn't the GPS just to get you there? wink

Set Proximity Alert

If I remember correctly, if you set the Proximity Alert when loading this file the icons will show up as you drive by no matter the zoom level.

Yes, the flag ONLY shows up for the location to which you are ACTIVELY routing. It does NOT appear on any other POIs. And again, if you select the location to route to, then you already know what it is.

I can't imagine that other manufacturer's units would function any differently. It more important in the programming hierarchy that the destination be flagged with the end of the route symbol (ie checkered flag) than showing the custom (or even the built in icon).

It would make no sense for the icon to take precedence over the checkered flag.

I appreciate all the info -
