I bought a second nuvi a while back with order maps installed. I bought the latest update (2008) and installed it in ANOTHER unit. Can I install the maps on the SECOND unit or are the expensive map updates just usable ONCE on ONE unit? Thanks.
Once
MM recently reported that Navteq has changed their policy of allowing an update to be used on up to two units, to saying it can only be used once.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Hmmm
I guess I could try it and see what happens.

One Unit
What it will come back to you with is that you cannot update a unit other than the one for which the update was sold. Been there - tried that - didn't work......... Will NOT harm anything on the 2nd unit.

The unlock Key
The unlock key will only work with the unit it is purchased for. I believe that it is matched with the internal serial number, and won't work if it can't find the right number.

The map update comes with a single unlock code that is valid for unlocking the maps to a single GPS unit. Unlock codes are consumable items. They can't be used for a second device. If you want/need to update the maps on a second unit, you would need to purchase a second update.
Update
Well I went to Garmin, the "my Garmin" area and requested a new unlock key for an additional unit and it gave me one with no problem. I did not try to install but it seemed like a normal request. I supplied the new serial number for the new unit and presto it added a new key which matched the serial number of the maps dvd. Hmmm, guess I'll see what happens.
