Free Map Update

I had the same experience from Garmin. I bought a new Nuvi 680 and when I registered it, it said I qualified for a map update. I called Garmin and they sent it with no problem. It took about 4 weeks, but no complaints from me.

Excellent customer service.

Were these units bought close to the release of the new maps? My new Nuvi 360 has the latest maps already, but I can't expect a free update when the next one is released can I?

Most units that qualify would have been shipped to suppliers before the new maps became available to install, but sold after the new map dvd's were released. If I remember correctly May 1 was the date last year.

I bought my Nuvi 680 in Dec 2007. It came with City Navigator NT version 8 on it. Since Garmin issued CN 2008 NT version 9 in summer of 2007, my unit had apparently been shipped to the vendor before new maps were put on it. It had the older maps on it when I bought it. (Before I bought it I actually called Garmin and asked them if they would update the maps if it came with older maps on it. They said yes, most definitely) Garmin then sent me the updated maps free after I purchased the unit. Much appreciated.

Garmin are great about this. My maps were also out of date but I now have the shiny new Navigator 2008 maps installed. Thanks Garmin!

What is the most recent map for the Nuvi?

That is the most current version.

I just purchased a Nuvi 350 and do have the latest 2008 map. But why are some roads that are about 6 years old, not show up on the map? Great site BTW. Just downloaded some POIs for MN.

NavTeq has to verify the road, then physically map it electronically. They may not have gone there yet or they have and it will be in the next release.

Check on google maps and see if the roads are there. If so, then they may be in the next release from garmin.

I purchased my Nuvi350 in March last year and I also got a free update when I did the registration. Now.... a 4-6 week wait.

Unfortunately I purchased a C330 back in October when they were on a major sale at the Best Buy and got a great rate, but the guy there didnt tell me the reason they were on a major sale was because they were discontinued. I called Garmin today to see about this update, and I am not eligible for it because my unit was discontinued. They did help me with some other issues I was having so I appreciate their help, but those of you out there with the C330, no update for us.

Call again. Many people have been successful by politely asking for the update since they purchased the unit after the map update was released. Note that the entire update will not fit on the c330. You would have to choose between US and Canada when you install the update. You can, however, install the rest on an SD card.

how do you check to see which map version you have. I hve a Nuvi 650.

Also on the same line of thought, what is the exact name of the latest release?

Go to "Wrench", "Map", "Map Info" and it should tell you what map version you have.

I have NT 2008. I guess I don't need to update.
