2008 Map Question

I have a C550 with the City Navigator North America NT 2008 map loaded. There is a neighborhood not far from me with some fairly new streets (about two years old, I think) that do not appear on my map. I realize that it takes time to get things updated, so I figure it's no big deal. I saw on another thread where you can report discrepancies on the NAVTEQ website, so I thought I'd do my part to let them know about the new streets. The thing is, ALL of the new streets are already on the current map at the NAVTEQ site.

Anyway, my question is, does anyone know how long it takes for corrections at NAVTEQ to filter down to Garmin's maps? I assume the "2008" map must have been compiled some time in 2007, but I wonder how old it really is?

Does it help to report map problems to Garmin, too, or is it the same either way?

12-18 months

At least, that is what they say. The new update is due out soon, so one can only hope that, since you say the streets are already on the NAVTEQ site, that they will be in the new release.

No guarantees, though.

You took the correct action by reporting to Navteq. Reporting to Garmin just makes its way back to Navteq.
I believe Garmin purchases one update from Navteq per year. They then need to integrate that into their software, do QA testing on all models, and then distribute it both as a software update and installed on new units. This takes time. Therefore, since you saw it on Navteq's maps, it could either appear on the next update from Garmin, or if it missed the deadline, it won't appear for another year.
When Garmin releases the new update, they provide a means to search for locations on their website to see if they are included.

5 quarters behind at least

2008 Map uses the NAVTEQ data of Q3, 2006, so it's at least 5 quarters lag behind Navteq, plus Navteq is 5 quarters lag behind true changes in roads, 2008 map is 2.5 years behind real roads, at least.
