Glad I'm not in Chicago

Chicago, Illinois unveiled a pair of deals it had reached to turn the city into the undisputed automated ticketing capital of the United States. The city had already operated one of the country's larger red light camera programs beginning in November 2003. To date, that program has generated $72 million worth of tickets which has helped to ease the city's substantial budget deficit. The new contract will station cameras at one out of every ten intersections, a goal Mayor Richard M. Daley (D) first set in 2006. The move is designed to generate more than $100 million in annual revenue.

Safer

Well, I'm glad that we're doing it to make the streets safer... nice they admitted it's a plan to increase revenue. Granted, running red lights is dangerous and should be avoided... but, still. rolleyes

Interesting. Good article.

Interesting. Good article. Makes sense. Its a great deal. The manufactuer installs and maintains them for free and the city shares the profits with them. Sounds like an Obama idea.

SF is supposed to have started something like this, but I havent seen it in action yet. Im constantly cruising in the bus lanes, but then again, I have plate cover on the rear.

You shall OBEY!!!

His pop was "The Boss" and he is turning out to be "Big Brother" Probably one of the many reasons I moved out of Chicago.

I live in Chicago and I've gotten two tickets in the past three years. One for right turn on red and another at 3 in the morning. It's a $90 boo boo.

I must give them kudos that they are up front and saying that the cameras are to reduce the city debt rather than blowing smoke up the south end and pretending that they care about your safety.
