Garmin Folder

Does anyone know what the EXTDATA folder is
on my Garmin device?

I don't have an EXTDATA

I don't have an EXTDATA folder on my Nuvi 350. What model do you have? Also have you used any extras like MAD Maps, SaversGuide, TravelGuide, Traffic or the European Safty Cameras? The reason I ask is Garmin lists them in the Extras-->Services section on their website.

EXTDATA Folder

I have a 200W.
All my custom POI's (extras) are saved on my SD card. Not on the device.
The contents of the folder are .bin files.
006-D0952-01.bin, 006-D0952-02.bin, 006-D0952-03.bin, 006-D0952-04.bin.

They're taking up about 12M of memory, and was wondering if they are needed?

Binary files

Binary files are used for a wide variety of content and can be associated with a great many different programs. In general, a .BIN file will look like garbage when viewed in a file editor and unless there is some clue in the ASCII portion of the file (if any) there is little one can do to determine which program a particular .BIN file goes with. The context of the file (where it is located) may help. Sometimes a CD or DVD image is circulated as a .BIN file. These images must be either written to a disc or opened using a virtual CD/DVD disc program.

EXTDATA

It's not on my 650 either. What files does it contain?

Files

My Nuvi 250W contains the same files as PhilC

The contents of the folder are .bin files.
006-D0952-01.bin, 006-D0952-02.bin, 006-D0952-03.bin, 006-D0952-04.bin. about 11.8 MB worth.

Bin files

The .bin files on my 650 are 006b047800 and 006b47201.
They are located in the garmin folder along with the map files. If you are adventurous you could copy the folder and files to your computer then delete off your nuvi then try it. If it doesn't work, copy them back to the nuvi. Or you could call Garmin support, they are normally very helpful.
